Can the "Direct from [username]" prefix in the Twitter DM to SMS messages be shortened to just [username]?
I just received a Twitter DM via 3jam and it got cut into two sms messages because the user had a long username.
I'm assuming this means that 3jam also charged me for 2 sms msgs. Do correct me if I'm wrong! 8-)
Anyway, the main body of my friend's DM only contains 141 characters, but the total sms msg length became 163 characters because of the "Direct from [username]:" prefix that Twitter places in front of the DM text.
In this specific example, I lost 22 characters to that prefix (141 + 22 = 163, which is over the 160 char limit for sms)
So I was wondering -- could you kindly consider implementing one of these enhancements so we can save on characters (and therefore save on sms messages)?
a. Remove the "Direct from " text. Leave the username and a colon afterwards.
This saves 12 characters, and since 3jam only offers DMs right now, it's obvious that anything received via 3jam is a DM. The "Direct from " text is redundant.
b. Change "Direct from [username]" to "d.[Username]".
This saves 10 characters, but makes it explicit that the incoming message is a direct msg. Should 3jam expand the Twitter service to include @replies or updates, there won't be any confusion.
c. Any other character-minimizing improvement you can think of
Thanks for listening!

Inappropriate?Oh, and I forgot to mention the standard text appended to the end of direct messages.
I think that can also be stripped off to save at least another 21 characters. I'm referring to:
'Reply with 'd [username] hi.'

Inappropriate?Ooooh! I just checked my 3jam.com account history and learned that I'm charged on a per-DM basis, rather than per-SMS.
So that two-part sms message only cost me $0.05.
Thank you! This makes me so happy! And makes 3jam's Twitter DM to SMS service really worth the money.
I’m thrilled

Inappropriate?Hey @mdy,
Yep, we only charge you once per direct message, regardless of whether we send you one or two SMSes. We are currently looking into how we can best format the text of the message based on user suggestions. At the moment we're inclined to stick to the Twitter wording just because everyone's familiar with it, but we're definitely seeing what we can do better. We'll keep your suggestions in mind :)
I’m thrilled that you're thrilled
