how to handle images that don't meet the guidelines.
A while back (I think when the dreamscapes theme was open) I was asked to remove one of my images from the site because I hadn't followed the upload guidelines. I think the whole situation was diffused because I was asked to remove the image, and the JPG rep explained why I was being asked to remove it, rather than being told it had been removed.
The difference is pretty subtle, but I think in a community like JPG, if you just explain the problem and give people the freedom to do the right thing, more often than not you'll get the results you want and not damage the relationship.

Hey guys! Here's something I wrote about this in another forum that's relevant:
"-More complex photo removal system: There has been a lot of talk around the office about creating a photo "purgatory" where the photo can go instead of being immediately deleted. This would give the photographer a chance to state their case before the photo is officially gone. In addition, we are interested in having more advanced flagging and deleted photo email notification systems as well. We're working on it."
I will also say that I at first tried messaging people to take down their photos that didn't fit the rules. I got ignored, and it was really tricky keeping track of the people I'd messaged and checking back up on them. Just not scalable that way, but I think photo purgatory could work.
I’m excited about site improvements.

Inappropriate?i think you're right on there, squareroot. personally, when i first started i had about 3 photos removed... i really didn't take it personally. still, explaining the issue and giving a timeframe to remove your own photo seems much more like an adult venue.
even if we do sometimes act like babies, it's good to give us the chance to wear big girl/boy pants.
I’m in total agreement.

Inappropriate?i think that is a very fine idea, myself.

Inappropriate?I think thats a brilliant idea. I had many images removed from Flickr and I can't even express my boiling frustration at those mass produced terms of service violation messages. Then JPG removed a picture and said basically hey man we don't accept pictures with the the pink parts exposed . . . . I felt fairly treated. No one wants to search through a list of rules and try and find which one they may or may not have broken. A human explanation of why a picture needs to be removed is really going above and beyond.

Inappropriate?Hey yall!
I mentioned this in another post, but I did want to say that we started using a new, more detailed removal email in February. It gives a bit more explanation than the older one and also we're working to customize them for each photo, so it's clear which photo guideline we're talking about.

Inappropriate?seeing as i've only had one image removed and clearly learned my lesson, i guess i wouldn't have realized that. thanks for sharing.
...i might just go break the rules to get the letter.
I’m the kind of photographer that doesn't touch his camera anymore. wait, that should have been a sad face, i guess.

Inappropriate? No need to do that, I've just posted the text from the photo deletion email on a new topic thread.
