Checklist don't save on an iPod Touch when it doesn't have an Internet Connection

I've tried using Evernote as a shopping list/ToDo list. I then set the note as a Favorite on my iPod Touch so that it is available when I don't have an Internet connection. The problem is, if I try to mark off checkboxes, if I don't have an Internet connection, the checked items are lost. This makes it pretty much useless because when the iPod goes to sleep or I leave the screen, all the changes to the checkboxes are lost. Also, if I do have an Internet connection, if I hit the home button before the note has a chance to sync, all the checkbox changes are lost.
