Font size increases unintendedly, other typographic issues
Strange font behavior in Evernote Mac 1.0.5 beta:
• If you set a font size for a paragraph and press command-s (for saving), the font size increases to a larger font
• Once it increased the font size, it shows font size in points, but the application only allows settings in small, medium, large, x-large and so on
• There is no way to balance font size and keep it at one size permanently, every sync and saving will increase the font size
• If you choose one font size (large) for the title of a note and one for the copy (medium or small), after saving it can happen that the entire note font size gets super large (like 54 points)
Further issues are:
• Font choices flip to a different font when setting the font
• There is no way to create a bullet list without creating it in an RTF word processor and then copying the content
• New notes created in Evernote for Mac ignore my default font settings in Preferences
• Copy/pasted text loses its chosen font
• Once pasted and the font size was changed, the line settings of the copied text are removed (leading, the space between lines)
• There is no way to control leading (line height, the space between lines)
• If you set a font size for a paragraph and press command-s (for saving), the font size increases to a larger font

Inappropriate?Formatting problems don't seem to have been resolved even in the 1.1.4 Beta. I'm creating a new problems thread with the problems i face. Bleah.
I’m frustrated and sad
-
Inappropriate?I want to point out especially the loss of any formatting of copy/pasted text. Not even merely within Evernot copyied pieces keep such trivial things as bold/textsize formatting, instead there appear these really annoying bugs, that Evernote pastes some text as all bold, and there is no (!) possibility it would take formatting afterwards.. (??!!) Somebody should really look into that..
Also the lack of further Text Formatting options in general depicts a great loss.
I’m truly frustrated.

Inappropriate?Text styling in Evernote is desperately in need of some simplification. Let me lock notes as plain text, so they take on no formatting and I can edit them on my iPhone without trouble. Also, give me a paste-unstyled option (or better yet, a paste-styled option with paste-unstyled the default!)
I feel a lot of software pastes with styles by default because developers want to show off just how amazing clipboard technology has come from the old days when plaintext was the only option (hey look, we can paste OLE objects! isn't this great?!). Unfortunately plain text is almost always preferable for me, but very uncommon.
(P.S. a workaround for those with this problem -- to quickly convert styled text to unstyled, open Quicksilver (you have Quicksilver, right?), type period ("."), paste your text, then for the action choose Copy to Clipboard, and it will copy unstyled.)
I’m nonplussed
-
Heck yeah, plain-text editing/locking please! -
Inappropriate?I agree. Sometimes, when I'm typing in notes by hand, if I move the cursor with the arrow keys, it reverts to the default text style, no matter what font or at what size I was typing before.

Inappropriate?I have a multiplatform setup: three computers running OSX, Windows and Linux. I can clip to Evernote from all three, using the Firefox extension, but when it comes to keeping formatting style, it's a nightmare.
Notes taken on Windows using the Evernote client look impossible on Evernote for OSX (huge, or small with huge line-spacing), to the point I must re-open the URL with OSX, and paste again. I'm sure they'll look ugly on Windows next time :-|
Maybe this is related to the Windows client having definite font sizes (eg: Arial 14pt) but no OSX's?

The problem is, Evernote as a server platform works, but the clients have all been programmed differently. They are following different principles and UX patterns.
If Evernote was unifying all font-handling, they should make it *relative font sizes* (em units). It should stay away from points versus vague definitions like "medium" or "large".
One way to do this would be using CSS definitions across the board, in all clients, on all systems. This way the font size relative to the system's settings is applied, so it will look consistenly throughout each system. This won't make it look the same on *all* systems, but it will get rid of the reformatting misery we are all experiencing. -
Inappropriate? This happens to me all the time on the OS X client, except that it seems to make the text small, xx-small. This happens most often when I'm editing a list.

Yep, happens here to. Very annoying. -
Inappropriate?I have begun having (part of) the problem Core reported 1 year ago, since running the 1.4.4 update for Mac Evernote app.
When I type (or paste) something and "press command-s (for saving)" the last few lines of text become smaller, nearly 50% smaller. This also happens when Evernote auto saves.
are others having these issues in 1.4.4, the latest release in July '09?
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate?I've also now lost new-lines when I paste something from Evernote. i.e. copy some text, paste into another program - it's all on one line. (My workaround is to export as HTML, then copy, but that's pretty burdensome.)
I’m frusturated

Inappropriate?Copying pasting text and typing text in Evernote is like trying to deal with a deranged obsessed computer. It is constantly changing it with little noticeable pattern on cmd-s or when it syncs.
Font changes, font sizes are changed, colors of text changed, style changed. Mine likes to change it to "xtra small" + Italics + Red a lot.
I have spent time bolding and changing the color of text only to have it all disappear on sync or auto save. It is VERY frustrating!

Inappropriate? It should be noted that Evernote just released a new Mac version, apparently entirely dedicated to fixing these problems:
http://blog.evernote.com/2009/08/18/e...
I installed it, but still copy & paste from Evernote to anything else puts everything on a single line. There's also still no "remove formatting" button.
I’m let down
-
Little more info: The single-line issue happens on notes created on my iPhone, but not my Mac -
Inappropriate?Did you try to 'Paste without formatting' (Shift-Command-V)? This seems to work for me.
I’m blah
