Adding Music with SynthaSite

The above advice was for uploading a music file and adding a link to it with the link editor. If you want the music to play in the background, here are the steps:

1)Drag and drop an HTML widget onto your page
2)Paste the following over the default tags in the HTML editor:

3)In place of "musicfile.wav" type the exact filename of your music file.

After the path to your music file, you'll see a couple of attributes:

The autostart attribute tells the song file how to begin. If you have this set to "true", the song file will begin playing automatically when the page loads. If you put in "false", the sound file will not start automatically and the visitor will have to start the song by using their embedded media player.

The loop attribute tells the song how many times to play. If you have this set to "true" then it will play over and over again automatically. If you have it set to "false" it will play once and stop.

The hidden attribute tells the browser whether or not to hide the media player. It's not a good idea to leave this value at "true" unless you know for sure your visitors don't want to stop the music.

You don't want your music to annoy them to the point they leave because they can't figure out how to turn the music off."

Please note that if your music file is not loading in SynthaSite it is because the file is too large (in must be smaller than 5MB) The reason we have this limit is not because we want to restrict your space but because visitors generally click off sites that take a long time to load, which is what happens if you are sharing large files of any kind. If your music file is too large you might want to try hosting it somewhere else and linking to it. The link to the site I shared with you above will tell you how to do this.

Sorry, I tried to add an HTML tag where that media player image is appearing. Get Satisfaction seems to be cleverly interpreting the HTML and is embedding the image! I can't figure out a workaround (tried quotation marks, tried to upload the tag as a graphic, but no luck)

Here is another tip for adding music to your site.

If there is a song that is hosted somewhere on the web (something with a URL, as opposed to a file that is saved on your computer) you can try to following:
1) Drop a Google Gadgets icon on your page (you will find it in the widgets folder) and click on the link it the dialog that will take you to Google Gadgets.
2) Select the MP3 player and click "add to website"
3) In the song URL box, paste the URL of the song you want to play on your site, and then click "get code"
4) Copy the code and paste it into the Google Gadgets dialog box in SynthaSite.

To test your song, save and preview your page and you will be able to play it with your own little MP3 player.
