Are your streaming speeds going slower/worse?
Why does my a2bTV speed suck? I am pulling 5 mb when I check LA to Moscow on speedtest.net, but on a2bTV I am lucky to pull 500kbps and it is still very choppy. What happened to the proxy network?

Inappropriate?I am a user from Lisbon Portugal and I am experiencing the same problem. Speeds of 500 K that once were a steady 2MB. This started right after I tried the new Slingbox version altough I am back with the old one. I have a business relationship with the local telco and checks done confirm 8MB speeds to other video sites.

Inappropriate?I also have the same problem; my speed tends to fluctuate from 250 to 550 continuously; hopefully this is only temporary;
I’m still to new to know;

Inappropriate?Hi Everyone - Can you all go to speedtest.a2btv.com, run the test and then report back here what download speeds you're getting? Also, is anyone using the proxy network?

Fred - When we see speed drops that dramatic, in 99% of cases, it is due to your ISP artificially slowing down your speeds. Most of the time, a quick call to the ISP will solve the problem. They may be concerned that you are running a website or a P2P server over your connection. Let me know if that helps. -
Inappropriate?Just FYI, there was recently 3 main internet overseas cables that got cut. I know that is affecting some of our customers in Asia, the Middle East and Italy.
Here is a news article about it.

Hopefully it will be temporary. Internet traffic works like car traffic, if main roads are closed, everyone has to drive on the same side roads and it takes longer to get there. We are working on finding new proxy solutions that work consistently for all of our customers and will keep you up to date on what is happening.
I’m confident and sympathetic

Inappropriate?I am in Japan and my test to a2btv is 6368Kbps. The proxy is horrible; it won't hold at 1000Kbps. Our speeds have been getting worse and worse.
-
Inappropriate?I just want everyone to know that we're going to be doing some major overhauls of the proxy network in the next two weeks. We've identified a few areas for improvement that will hopefully bring a noticeable improvement in speeds for everyone.
One of the things that will really help us is if you could go take our quick stream speed survey. The data collected here will help us zero in on the trouble areas. Take the survey by clicking here.

Inappropriate?Ok - The official announcement is forthcoming, but here are a few details to try with the proxy network now.
Instead of using an IP address for the Proxy Address, use one of the following:
a2btv.srpnglobal.net or a2btveuro.srpnglobal.net
Your user name and password are the same as before.
We've added a new layer of encryption to those proxy addresses (and will be switching everyone over soon). The new encryption does a better job of bypassing traffic shaping being done at many ISPs. Please let us know here in the forum how this has helped.
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?I'm getting a new IP now but the speeds seem about the same to Australia. Speedtest on your site is around 4000 with proxy I get about 1700. Before sling2 I had 3500 on several occasions
I’m undecided
-
Do you need to use sling2 for your hardware? i.e. do you have a PRO-HD Slingbox? Are you using the updated proxy info?
Thanks! -
Inappropriate?No change here in japan with the new proxy. Speeds still suck!
-
Brian - Have you given us a call or come to the chat interface to work on your speeds? We have many tools available to improve your speeds. It usually takes about 30 minutes to troubleshoot. -
Inappropriate?Come visit with us on chat www.a2btv/sa and we can troubleshoot with you!

Inappropriate?I have same low speeds and inconsistencies while in Singapore. Speed test shows 560Kbps download. Slingplayer shows average of 300Kbps right now. Direct connect or through proxy doesn't matter...still the same average. I haven't been able to chat with a2btv due to time zone differences.
-
Hello - A few things - If your speedtest results are running at 560, have you tried setting your Slingplayer to manual encoding with a stream speed of 480-500Kbps?
Also, with the exception of Monday and Tuesday, we have chat operators available 24 hours a day (they are spread out among different time zones). Email us directly at support@a2btv.com and we can further assist you as well. -
Inappropriate?My speeds have made a huge improvement over the last month. One of the chat operators helped me out. It was all about which proxy address I used.
I still see speeds drop significantly about the time America wakes up each day.
I’m happy
