I would like to have my buddy list sort by IM service.

Inappropriate?I don't know if that is possible. I'm curious, why you would want to sort by service?
One of the things I love so much about Adium is that I don't have to pay attention to the services I use. All of the various accounts my contacts have are merged and aliased to their real names. It makes the experience much more enjoyable, for me at least. -
Inappropriate?What I can't figure out with Adium is why some of my contacts are under "Recent Buddies" (even if they're not recent), some are under "Contacts", some are under "Friends", and some are under "Buddies". Why all the different categories and how do I re-sort them and then get rid of the categories that are irrelevant?
I’m sometimes confused by technology. But shhh, don't tell.

Inappropriate?The reason they are under Recent buddies is because one of your IM services (AIM, if I recall) files your contacts by default under recent buddies. Adium inherits from the networks categorization data
To move them between groups, you drag and drop. To delete a category (after it's empty, you don't want to delete your contacts also), you right click on it and choose "remove". -

Inappropriate?It would be aweseome if you could sort by service! I use Digsby on my Windows machine specifically for that reason.
I don't like having all my contacts mixed up but I don't want to have 5 different IM clients open.
