Photoshop CS4 and Snow Leopard: couple of issues.
I've run into a couple of issues so far with Snow Leopard and Photoshop CS4 (actually, it affects Fireworks too).
1) I used to be able to drag images from a Safari window onto a CS4 app icon in the dock and they would open. Now, I have to hold down the Command+Option modifier to even be able to highlight the icon with the dragged image, and even then it won't open.
2) I can no longer drag multiple images from the Finder onto a CS4 icon and have them all open. Only the first item selected will open.
Small, but irritating issues. Other apps are not having this problem.

Inappropriate?I passed this along to the Photoshop team who will be looking at this.
-
Inappropriate?Derek, the first issue appears to impact non-Adobe apps as well. We're logging it and will be contacting Apple. The 2nd issue, at least on first pass, I wasn't able to reproduce, but I'm having someone look into it further.
-
Inappropriate?I tried both the issues on Adobe Fireworks CS4 and do not seem to run into them. IS there something specific you are doing?
-
Inappropriate? My apologies - it seems I am encountering the second issue with other apps as well, but it's completely random. Sometimes it will open 3 out of 5. Sometimes just 1. Sometimes all.
But clearly not an Adobe-specific issue. -
Inappropriate? It will help if you can give us a little more information on Issue #2. Some concrete steps to see the issue at our end for further investigations.
-
Inappropriate?Unfortunately, I can't really give any more info. It seems truly random. I just experienced it gain now.
1) Drag 3 image attachments from an email message onto my desktop.
2) Drag these same 3 images onto the FW icon in my dock.
Result: 1 image opened.
Close that image, and drag the exact same 3 images onto the icon again, and all 3 open.
Very strange!
I’m perplexed

Inappropriate?Same problem here as well but ONLY on Snow Leopard, on Leopard Not such thing... On top of not being 64bit, this new bug turn me mad
-
Inappropriate?Im having the same problem, dragging multiple items does weird things. Sometimes just opens the first image, sometimes more than one, but totally random.
Dragged 6 images to Preview and only opened one, did it again and it opened 2 in the same window and one separately, then again and it opened 5 in one window and 1 separately.....what the hell!?!?!?!?? -
Inappropriate?I upgraded to Snow Leopard the day it came out. Some may say that is crazy, but I checked out lists online of which programs were supposedly working. Everything I cared about was listed as OK.
I find another issue with Photoshop. Anytime I try to add Styles over a solid black color, the effects don't show up! If I place the text half over black with the other half over another color, it's crazy how the half over the black still doesn't show my styles.
Also, Fireworks does not run at all. Yes, I have all the updates installed. Needing this program for work, I decided to take the plunge and do a fresh install of Snow Leopard, but the same problem still exists. I dread having to do take steps backwards and do a full install of Leopard again. I just keep hoping a fix will come down the line soon.
-
Inappropriate?Same problem.
For some background...
In Firefox 2 I was able to drag images on Leopard from the browser into photoshop and other standard apps but not Fireworks. I switched to Safari 3 or below, which allowed me to directly into Fireworks. In Safari 4 on Snow Leopard I can no longer drag any images from the browser directly into Fireworks OR any Adobe App. Other apps such as Things or Little Snapper work fine. Same thing from Firefox (which use to allow me to from Photoshop and all other Adobe excluding Fireworks.
I can drag any image from my desktop to any of the Adobe applications.
Please resolve so in the latest version of Firefox and Safari I will be able to use the latest operating system (snow leopard) and drag and image from either browser directly into any of the latest version of Adobe's Photo applications such as Photoshop and Fireworks CS4.
Let me know if you need more information.

Inappropriate?Nick,
As I don't want just spout my problems and ignore others, I noticed Fireworks is not working at all for you on Snow Leopard and was before. Fireworks CS4 seems to work perfectly (other than the above drag and drop functionality from browsers) and haven't ready any widespread issue online about Fireworks CS4 not working with Snow Leopard.
What happens when you try opening Fireworks CS4? Absolutely nothing, an error? (if so what does it say verbatim), does it open and crash right away.
If it is crashing have you looked into the Console.app to see the error message that the Operating System gives when it crashes? All these things should help other users try to diagnosis what the problem is since it seems not to be the app itself.
Let us know! Thanks!

Christopher,
I click Fireworks and the splash screen comes up. From this, I know that I have the latest version (10.0.3.11). Then right away, the exact message I get is "Fireworks can not run. An internal error occurred." My only option is to hit OK and the program quits.
Thanks for suggesting that I peek into Console. I see that the start of the problems seems to have something to do with Adobe AIR, such as: "ln: /Applications/Adobe Fireworks CS4/Configuration/Mac/Shared/AdobeAIR/SDK/runtime/Adobe AIR.framework/Adobe AIR: No such file or directory"
So, I decided to download AIR and install it manually. When I went to install, I was surprised that this version was newer (Adobe's Updater must not search for AIR updates). I installed it, but no luck - Fireworks is still having the same issue.
I went back into Console to investigate further. After the AIR problems, the next error was:
"Could not read cache file -43" and whole lot of "Adobe Fireworks CS4(338,0xa0040500) malloc: *** error for object 0xffffffff: pointer being freed was not allocated"
with
"*** set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug" in-between.
After the many repeats of malloc_error_break, it all ends with: "com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[128] ([0x0-0x31031].com.macromedia.fireworks[338]) Job appears to have crashed: Segmentation fault"
and
"Saved crash report for Adobe Fireworks CS4[338] version Adobe Fireworks CS4 version "10.0.3.011" (10.0.3) to /Users/nick/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Adobe Fireworks CS4_2009-09-21-224213_macbookpro.crash"
Unfortunately, these don't mean a whole lot to me other than there was trouble allocating memory for some purpose. I guess these were problems happening after it couldn't find the AIR stuff it was looking for and the program began to crash. Hmm... I now feel that I have a little idea where the problem is stemming from, but have no clue where to go from here.
Thank you again for the Console suggestion. I've only had a Mac for a year, but have worked with PCs and programming for years prior. In this first year I have had very little trouble with my Mac and this is the first time I've had a problem that wasn't resolved quickly by myself or a handy update. -
Inappropriate?Hi, no issues here with Fireworks CS4, all works fine in Snow Leopard.
Just the strange thing when trying to open multiple files, then it randomly fails to open them, but never opens them all as it did in 10.5. Odd.....
Draggin multiple files to Preview seems to work, so must be Adobe???? -
Christopher,
I wish I had some good input, if only my Fireworks worked at all!
However, I can say that dragging multiple files to Photoshop works just fine. Possibly just a Fireworks issue? -
Inappropriate?Jason,
Are you using the latest versions of of Firefox (3.5) and Safari (4)? If so, by no issues, does that mean you are able to go to Google.com for example and drag their main image directly from either browser directly into the Fireworks CS4 dock icon?
Please confirm, as that was the number one issue for this post, so when you say all works fine, want to make sure you are responding to this original post and not another. Thanks!
Also to note, holding down command+option while dragging from either browser, does show the Fireworks/Photoshop Icon changing to a hovered state but does not actually allow it to open the image, as the original poster mentioned.

Inappropriate?I am having this same problem opening multiple files by dragging to PS cs4. It usually only opens the first in the finder list and sometimes 2?!?!
I’m ughhh
-
Inappropriate?I am having the same issues: 1) multiple files dragged onto PS dock icon doesn't always open all files, and 2) images dragged from a browser into PS won't open at all.
These are two things that help my workflow immensely and not being able to do them is irritating!
I’m disappointed.
-
Inappropriate?I have the same problem. Select more than 1 file in the finder, drag them in PS icon and only one opens! SO damn frustrating! When will there be a fix?

Inappropriate? We're still working with Apple and making good progress. Sorry, I don't have an ETA, but I hope soon.
-
Inappropriate? The whole not being able to open multiple files at once sucks butt.
I need to open 10+ files on a regular basis in Photoshop and having to do it 1 at a time kills me.....
Productivity is @ a -15 -
Inappropriate?Yeah, I hear ya it is a drag. We're getting closer I believe though.
-
Inappropriate?BTW, here's a link to the KB on it: http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/517/cpsid_51...
-
Inappropriate?still no solution?

Inappropriate?Sorry, not yet. If I had control of that schedule, I probably wouldn't be here. ;)
-
Inappropriate?Thanks David,
speaking about the "dragging multiple files" I found this surfin' around... and so far looks like it has worked.
seems to be a problem not only with photoshop. hope could help.

Inappropriate?Thanks the.duch,
Yes. Most of the known issues affect applications other than Photoshop hence the reason we're working with Apple to correct. We're aware of the issues. They're aware of the issues.
The solution you point out is a viable workaround until there is a permanent fix.
There are other workarounds for some of the other issues with open and saving stability: http://bit.ly/2JGUjb
As Dave states, we're getting closer but we have little control over when the fix will be released. We'll report as soon as we're able. -
Inappropriate? The 10.6.2 update of Snow Leopard addresses both of these issues.
