Inappropriate?Have you launched the Parent Product with which AME was installed at least once. Since AME is a application installed with either Premiere Pro or Flash Professional, it needs to see that the parent product is launched and activated to start working itself.
If this is not the issue, is there any error message seen? -
Hi Saran-
Yes, I launched Flash CS4 first, then tried AME with no luck...This was happening with the 30 day trial version a few weeks ago as well...
As I mentioned before, my computer info is as follows: Dell Dimension 8400, Intel Pentium 4 640 @3.20 GHz (Instructions MMX, SSE, SSE2, SSE3, EM64T), 1024 megs ram, plenty of drive space, Windows NT w/SP 3...
Maybe I need more RAM??? I'm at a loss, so any suggestions would be appreciated...Thanks, Rick -
Inappropriate?More RAM never hurts :-), but in our tests, we have run AME on 1 GB as well so i am sure that it launches.
However Windows NT is not a platform we have tested on or is even supported. The System Requirements can be looked up @ http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/s....
Have you tried this on a Windows XP or Vista system and seen the same issue. -
Did I say NT...Sorry...I meant Windows XP w/sp3...:-) -
Inappropriate?OK, so i ran a few tests on a Windows XP SP3 system with the help of a colleague and did not have any issues in launching the Media Encoder. This is a regular Dell 620 system with 1 GB RAM.
Can you delete the following files from C:\Documents and Settings\<user name="true">\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Media Encoder\4.0 and try to launch again.
1. AMEPrefs.xml
2. AppPrefs.xml
3. batch.xml
Let me know if this works. Again, do you see any error message when launching Media Encoder or Just nothing happens. Were you ever able to launch it successfully on this system and if yes, was there ever an abnormal termination of the application. </user> -
I deleted AMEPrefs.xml...The other two files you mentioned didn't exist...Media Encoder still wouldn't launch...I deleted it again, rebooted, and it still wouldn't launch...I only get the splash screen, and the the Microsoft "Send Error Report to Microsoft" message...I saved the MS error report text file...I can send it to you if you want...I don't see a way to attached a doc on getsatisfaction...Can you send me an email address so I can use outlook express??? Also, I was never able to launch the trial version, or the version that came when I purchased Flash CS4 successfully on this system...Many thanks for helping me with this...Rick -
Inappropriate? You can send me the file at saran272@gmail.com

Inappropriate? So, the error dump from Microsoft was not of much help. Could you please answer the following queries:
1. Has any of the CS3 application ever co-existed with AME CS4 application on this system and then the CS3 application was un-installed
2. Are you able to launch & work with Flash CS4 without any issues
3. Have you ever run the Adobe update on this system. If not, could you please run the Adobe updater from "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Updater6\Adobe_Updater.exe" and update only AME to the latest version (CS4.0.2)
4. Does the system have XP-64 bit OS installed on it.
My apologies if this seems like too much, but trying to resolve the issue remotely does necessitate this flow of information :-) -
Hi Saran-
In answer to your questions:
1) No CS3 applications have ever been installed on my system...
2) Yes, I can launch & work with Flash CS4...The only issue I've noticed is that if I try to import anything to the stage or library, the program freezes, and I have to do a ctrl/alt/delete and end the process...To get around this, I have been able to drag & drop JPGs and GIFs from Windows Explorer into the Flash Library...PNGs don't work at all no matter what I do...Everything else seems OK so far...
3) I just ran the Updater as you specified, and updated only AME, and it still won't launch...I see only the Splash screen...the new version is 4.0.2.002...
4) I don't know how to check if system has XP-64 bit OS...If you tell me how to check this, I can let you know...
Thanks for help with all the troubleshooting...Rick -
Inappropriate? This has us a bit stumped, i am afraid. Would it be possible for you to get into a Connect session with us. Where are you based and assuming that it is US, would an early morning time be suitable for you. If yes, i can send out the details of the meeting to you separately by e-mail.
In all likelihood, you must be on a 32 Bit system, but you can confirm this by looking up the steps @ http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827218 -
Saran-
Yes, it is a 32 bit system...
I'm in California...What time of the morning would you want to connect to my system, and can you give me more specifics??? Who would be on the session, just you and me, or others...
Thanks, Rick -
Inappropriate?Would Tuesday, 31st Mar, 8 AM PST, be a good time for you.
Besides me, i will have one of my colleague along with me in the call/connect session.
Please let me know if this works for you and i will send along the details to you on your mail id. -
I do not want to allow remote access to my computer...Can you tell me what you want know, and I can preform the operations and get back to you...I would feel more comfortable proceeding in that manner...Rick -
Saran-
I may have fallen on a work-a-round to get AME CS4 (Vers. 4.0.2.002) to launch and function on my Windows xp svc. pk.3 machine:
- Right click on AME shortcut (or program icon) and select Properties...
- Select the Compatability tab
- Check "Run this program in compatability mode for:"...
- Choose Windows 2000...
Click Apply, then OK...
After doing this, the first time I tried to launch AME, I crashed and got a blue screen...After re-starting, AME seems to be running OK...
Let me add, I have NO idea why this works or that it will continue to work, but so far I'm able to do what I need to do, whereas before I could do NOTHING...
Hope this helps someone!
Rick -
Inappropriate?Well glad to know that AME is finally working :-) even though after a system crash.
I would need you to run by a couple of tests for us which would help us in isolating the error. However to run these you would have to bring the machine back to the original state (not running in compatibility mode)
1. Start --> Run --> eventvwr
2. Click on Application on the LHS of the event viewer
3. All the application errors seen would be listed on RHS
4. Launch AME, i assume it would continue to crash while launching if the system has been restored to the NON-compatibility mode
5. Go back to the event viewer and double click the last few entries, starting from the very latest
6. Look for "adobe media encoder" in the description field of the error window
7. Copy paste the description and provide that as your response.
Since AME has crashed on multiple occasions before on this system, even before you restore the machine to the "NON-compatibility" mode, you could provide some additional information from the earlier errors reported in event viewer
1. Start --> Run --> eventvwr
2. Click on Application on the LHS of the event viewer
3. All the application errors seen would be listed on RHS
4. Menu View --> Find
5. Type "adobe media encoder" in the Description field and search for any of the older errors logged by the event viewer
6. Provide the description of the error
I am assuming that you would find multiple errors since this has been tested on the machine on multiple occasions, but the description should remain consistent across the errors since the crash has always been seen at the time of launch. It would however be great if you can indeed verify this. -

From Event Viewer when trying to launch AME (Not in compatibility mode):
Faulting application adobe media encoder.exe, version 4.0.2.0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0xb51c0000.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events....
Here' an earlier one from 3/31...It's got a different hex value:
Faulting application adobe media encoder.exe, version 4.0.2.0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x000c0100.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events....
Let me know what else I can provide for you...Thanks, Rick -
Inappropriate? Thanks for the info. I will have this looked up and see if we can get any further insight into the issue.

Inappropriate?Hi guys,
I have followed your thread and appreciate you ideas! I found what I believe is the culprit.
