When will Adobe Air support printing?
I know that Adobe Air doesn't support printing fully at the moment and i would like to know if there's an estimated date/timescale when its likely to be implemented? To get round it i believe you can use PDF's instead and print them, but its not ideal!
Can you give us a rough ETA?

Inappropriate?How about....Now!

This does have a note that says, "Note: Adobe AIR does not support vector printing on Mac OS." I'm not sure if that's fully up-to-date with the AIR 1.5 release. I'm not an expert in AIR, but thought I'd point out this resource in hopes that it helps.
Cheers! -

Inappropriate?Howdy
I can confirm that vector printing on Mac does not work in AIR 1.5 - however, this should only affect print scaling and print time performance on the Mac - printing should still *work* per se.
Besides that - we should be supporting all the printing features of Flash Player. Dan - can you tell me which part of printing is blocking you?
Thanks,

Hi Chris,
There's a temporary work-around offered on this page:
http://dryicons.com/blog/2008/04/26/m...
... but even this one cannot avoid the @ 2,800 vertical pixels limitation imposed by the current AIR runtime engine.
It's somewhat interesting to note that an Adobe employee, Anirudh Sasikumar, did mention in his comment on this page that he'll "pass pass along the improvement suggestions to the AIR team at Adobe". This was still back in April 2008.
I wonder what happened since then...
We just wanted to know if this issue is being addressed or paid attention to.
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Hi Guys,
Firstly, thanks for your replys!
I should of been more specific, i code using html/js. So is the only way to print using AS? I know the for JS developers Air does not support window.print().
As an example, i need to print standard forms which are quite straight forward, they contain a header incorperating a logo and a footer. What i dont want is the headers/footers you normally get when printing from the browser. I know you can change the propertys in IE for example to get rid of them, but this isnt ideal. I therefore have been creating PDF's and opening them within the Air App and printing effectly from Adobe Reader within Air i suppose?. This doesnt print the headers and footers but is a little bloated.
Thanks again.
Dan.
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?Chris, any news? I take it you can only do it via AS?
Thanks -
Inappropriate?"we should be supporting all the printing features of Flash Player."
That seems to be setting your sites a little low. Air is meant to bridge the gap between the web and the desktop. Desktop applications need more sophisticated priting capabilities than regular flash applications. Do a quick google search, and you will find that many people are having trouble with air's lack of printing functionality. Since printing seems to be Air's achilles heel at the moment, providing decent printing capabilities should be a major (if not THE major) focus of Adobe's current efforts to improve air, especially considering Adobe's roots.
Anyway, it would be nice to hear someone at adobe say "we're on it," or at least "we'll take a look at it and think about it." -
Inappropriate?I totally agree! If im honest, i don't think the printing features are great as they are.
I too would like to know if their working on it and if they even see it as an issue themselves? As stated, a Google search brings up loads of people having an issue. It seems if someone mentions Adobe Air Printing Support for HTML/AJAX developers, a dark mist comes down and nothing is discussed about it!
Still - Some idea of future planned support would be nice. -
Inappropriate?Apologies for not replying sooner...
We are definitely aware that some developers are hitting walls with the current level of printing support in AIR when attempting to develop certain types of applications.
I can confirm that many of these (including better support for HTML, better multi-page configuration, silent printing - no native dialogs, customized printing - custom dialogs, and B&W printing) are either being tracked in our internal features database or are being actively worked on by teams here at Adobe.
Please feel free to include any additional print-related features in this thread and I will be sure to get them included on the list for future consideration. The more specific you can be in describing your use case and the expected implementation - the greater the chance we will be able to execute on it.
Thanks!

BTW: "we're on it" and "we'll take a look at it and think about it." -
Are there any printing features included in the new text layout framework? Any examples anywhere of printing text layout framework content from an Air app? -
Inappropriate?Hi Chris,
Thanks for taking the time to respond to our messages here about HTML/Ajax multi-page printing in AIR.
I already had 3 clients asking for multi-page printing functionality in their commercial applications, but all I could do is implement a temporary work-around in lieu of "normal" printing (i.e., create an HTML file and have the file printed using the Web browser's printing facility). As you know, this has the potential to cause problems in the wild, as some users may not have a default Web browser set up in their systems.
We hope the next AIR version will have a robust multi-page printing API we HTML/Ajax developers can use.
Thanks again,

Inappropriate?Any news on this? Do we know when this will be supported yet? Rough idea?

Inappropriate? Now that AIR 2 has been announced, did anyone at MAX ask or hear about better printing support? Considering the announcement of "Native application support" (http://blogs.adobe.com/air/2009/10/pr...), I wonder if our answer resides in that statement. Can anyone confirm?

Inappropriate?Hi all, have a look at this post:
http://blogs.adobe.com/air/2009/10/pr...
I've asked:
"there will be something like window.print()? Or maybe some PDF creation support?"
And the answer:
@antonio - We are not planning on enhancing this support in AIR 2. That said, if it is important to you, please send an email to our team a the following URL with details for how you would like to see it work: http://www.adobe.com/go/wish/
So: all of you go to http://www.adobe.com/go/wish/ and write that we need a printing system!
