Inappropriate? It's a nice idea - but are there enough creative people out there using *nix as their platform of choice to make it a justifiable business proposition for the company?
I’m indifferent

Would it make as much of a profit as Windows or Mac? No. But would it still make a profit? Yup. And profit is profit.
There would also be the additional benefit of Adobe not having a hole that somebody else could fill, if that makes sense. Nobody knows how many Linux users there are because of how it's free to distribute, but conservative estimates put it in the tens of millions, and the rate of growth is only accelerating too. And of course, this would also mean that the amount of pure profit from being Linux compatible could be counted on to just keep going up for years, which is always nice.
Plus, it would let Adobe tap the famously tech-savvy Linux user base, which is actually an extremely desirable group because of how active they are in things like community support forums, how they'd make lots of plugins and third-party things to make the flagship products more appealing, how they finding bugs and working with developers to fix them quickly, how they vocalize recommendations and usage tips to others, etc.
I think Linux compatibility is quite doable, and there isn't exactly a lack of reasons for Adobe to go for it. It's just old-time thinking to not value Linux compatibility, but fortunately, with things like Google Android, Linux netbooks, and the Ubuntu project doing so remarkably well, it's really just a matter of time before the old-timers are forced by their shareholders to get with the program. The demand for compatibility with Apple computers happened not so long ago, and we're seeing it happen again with Linux. -
Inappropriate?Well we now know FEDORA ALONE has a million users
-
And keep in mind that's only the ones we know about! Since it's so easy to distribute Linux distros (including Fedora) and no good way of tracking actual usage, there's an absolutely huge number of users that don't ever get recorded. And it's only growing! -
Inappropriate?I agree!! Mac OS X is now built on a UNIX OS, so it shouldn't be too difficult for them to port their software to run on Linux. I have five computers at my house, 2 running Windows, 2 running Ubuntu Linux and 1 running OS X.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I use linux now for all my web development work, its so much more stable and so much faster than windows ever was for me, moving to a mac would be too expensive when I have a perfectly good pc.
I only made the move recently and the only reason I didn't earlier was because CS wasn't available. My workaround at the moment is I have a lot of ram and xp installed in a virtual machine within ubuntu, on which I've installed CS. It runs well, but this isn't ideal as I can't get my graphics tablet to work properly within the virtual machine.
Once Adobe release a native linux version of CreativeSuite, I think you'll see a considerable increase in the number of linux users. At the moment, most windows users are put off by the lack of software support, and don't realise how much more efficient the OS is over windows. Everyone who's seen my computer in action is in awe of how quick it handles things, and I only have a fairly cheap computer, and it certainly didn't run that quick under XP. Also linux is constantly improving, if this is what it's like now:

what's it going to be like in a few years. It currently lacks some hardware support and a lot of software support, but compare to a few years back it's come on loads.
I’m looking forward

Inappropriate?I've been waiting for a linux version for a long time. been trying to get it working trough wine but it just doesn't work as i want it too, and my box haven't got the power to run it trough a virtual os. right now i have to dual boot to get it working..
-
Inappropriate? It would be awesome since I too, aside from Windows uses Linux.
-
Inappropriate?I still use Windows ONLY because Adobe CS doesn't run on Linux.
I wait Adobe to make this possible since long time!!! And now I'm not so hopeful...
I’m sad
