I kow you guys keep telling us that the new version will count everything under the sun but I thought I'd ask this in case you haven't thought of it.
I'd love is AideRSS also counted the number of times an item has been shared (and possibly starred) in Google Reader. Quite a few people use this function and it's like an unofficial voting.
I don't know if Google provides an API for but I hope you have some way to achieving it.
First, thank you for this great tooln it's an impressive work you've done!
However, I have a concern about AideRSS in Google Reader. WHen I sort by post rank, the newer post don't have a good enough rank to appear on the list, but might reach a better rank in the future. So this isn't really relevant, isn't it? I mean, I use to "mark all as read" when I'm done with my feeds - when I sort by rank, I can't, or I could miss some new posts that don't have a good rank yet, but might become important in the future.
Thank you for taking the time to listen to me,
Vincent
HI! I just installed new version of extension in FF3: I can't find, in the bottom of every single post, the details (google backlinks, comments, digg, etc) that I was used to find in extension beta 1.0. Is it a bug or the new version doesn't show those details by design? I found it very interesting...
I found that for me, using Firefox 3.0 and the greasemonkey version of the script, AideRSS breaks the way Google Reader used to work:
- Without AideRSS, when i click on a the subject of a feed entry while holding down the <ctrl> key, a new tab is created but i stay on the Google Reader tab. With AideRSS i ́m catapulted to the new tab; very annoying.
- With AideRSS when selecting a post i stays unread; also annoying.
There is a small incompatibility between your Greasemonkey script and the Google Reader Preview Enhanced script. Normally, clicking on a title opens up the original story in a new page. The latter script prevents that, and shows the original story inline instead. However, your script breaks the first part of that functionality. Thus, clicking on a title opens up the original story both inline and in a new page. This occurs regardless of the order those two scripts are run.
Unfortunately, I have had to disable your script for now, due to this bug. AideRSS is something I have been needing for a long time, so I hope you can get this small issue worked out soon. Thanks!
Filtering to Great.. and then clicking 'Mark all as Read', should only mark those great items as read.. not all unread items (that are best, good etc..).
To update everyone, we've tidied up the Google Reader extensions, so there are no longer two separate downloads depending on whether you're using Firefox 2 or 3. The extension also works with Greasemonkey.
The latest version of the extension supports both versions of the browser, and is available via the main Google Reader extension page: http://gr.aiderss.com/
The separate beta extension page with the zip file download is no longer necessary.
i installed the googlereader firefox extension and all i see is a drop down menu for all/good/great/best and nothing else new in google reader. Am I missing something? I am using Firefox 3. I don't remember explicitly installing Greasemonkey but I don't know how to tell if it is installed or not. I am very frustrated as this extension looks like the kind that I would love and want to share with many people, but I am close to giving up on it. Help?
Have just installed the new Greasemonkey script for Firefox 3 (and also tired the plug-in), but so far am still only getting the AideRSS pull-down menu (excellent, good, great). I'm personally running FF3 RC1 on OS X 10.5.3.
I'm assuming I should be seeing something else, correct?
I have installed the Reader extension, but all ranked items are "1.0" or, rarely, "10"... let me know if you'd like any more info. Thanks in advance.
update - I finally ran into some items ranked with other numbers, from Lifehacker and Huffington Post, and more than a few hours old. User error on my part?
I've had AideRSS in my Starred Items for a couple of weeks now. I've been thinking it over, because I really am a thorough person... I like to read all the posts in most of my feeds. But I was starting to feel overwhelmed by a few feeds... I found myself "marking all as read" for them, but I didn't want to unsubscribe completely because I do like them. I just started using AideRSS tonight and it's great! I'm not so overwhelmed anymore and I still get to enjoy the feeds. Thanks!!
I've installed the Greasemonkey Script. It shows the Dropdown menu in my reader but for some reason it doesn't pagerank anything and if i use the dropdown menu to select an option it does nothing.
You have sent me the link for installing extension and I clicked on it, traditional "Firefox prevented bla bla..." thing came out. So I have added "gr.aiderss.com" to Firefox's allowed sources list. However, Firefox is still preventing it although I have added it to "Allow List" and checked out several times. I know that if there would be a link on the page directly to the extension file, this wouldn't happen.
How if any way may I get AideRSS to work with the Flock nightly? it's based on FFx3, but doesnt' seem to have exactly the same entries in about:config ?!
Well, after a bunch of changes, 2 or 3 invites, extension and greasemonkey script installations, re-installations, I have given up. No I will not use Firefox 2, no I don't want anymore invites. I am using Firefox 3 now.
Never have I seen a more complicated software installation process.
After receiving another invite via e-mail I did a fresh install of the extension. It did not work. Then I tried to install the greasemonkey script and my browser froze. When I restarted and navigated to Google Reader all I got was the orange drop-down menu. It does nothing. I chose individual feeds and all that. Nothing.
To be honest, this takes an extraordinary amount of patience even to try to tolerate this bugginess. This should have been labeled as Pre-Alpha, use at your own risk, not ready for primetime.
I tried, very hard to get this to work and it consumed a lot of my time. I would recommend you just prominently warn Firefox 3 users that an installation this product is not to be attempted.
I will check back soon to see if any progress has been made. AideRSS looks like a very nice usefull tool. I just don't have the patience or time to fiddle with this anymore.
Good luck and look forward to using this soon. Thanks.
