How long between feed updates?
I just created a new feed and it's wonderful! I'm very impressed with the service. However, it was "last updated" 4 hours ago and I was hoping it would stay closer to real-time (within an hour or so).
Is there a setting for this? If not, what is the average amount of time between updates so I can decide if this will work for me or not?
Thanks!

Inappropriate?Mickmel, the time between updates depends on the number of subscribers to the RSS feed. The more readers you have, the more frequently the feed will checked. Currently, the max time between updates is 4 hours -- hence, as your feed gets more subscribers, it should be updated more often.
What application are you using your feed for? We can certainly adjust the priorities on our end, if required. -
Inappropriate? It seems to be drifting beyond the 4 hour update window pretty often. We're at five hours right now.
The feed is:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/MapmemeAll
The use is intended to be here:
http://www.mapmeme.com/
I would like to have our front page show the top posts for the day, but that's not very useful when the RSS updates so infrequently. If you can bump the priority up a bit, that would be great.
Thanks!
I’m getting better

Inappropriate?Mick, we'll have to make a few adjustments on our backend. I'll let you know once that's done.
-
Inappropriate? That would be awesome. It's at nine hours right now, so something isn't right.
If I can tweak anything on my end of the feed that would make it work better, please let me know. -
Inappropriate?Mickmel, we've added some additional logic on our backend, and your feed should now be processed on an hourly basis. Let us know if anything else comes up!
-
Inappropriate?Just to add more info, here is my blog: http://finnfactory.blogspot.com/. I have a few posts that have gotten a nice bit of love from digg but that isn't reflected on the AideRSS site. How do I fix? please...
I’m frustrated
-
Brooklyn, please take a look now - are the value being picked up correctly? -
Brooklyn, I didn't adjust anything on our end -- one of our spiders was behind on his work, but caught up yesterday. Yes it should work moving forward, if that is not the case, then please let us know. -
Time varies depending on how many subscribers you have on this feed. With a single subscriber, your feed should be updated at least once every 8 hours. -
Inappropriate?I'm having the same issue as well. Currently my own feed is at 18 hours which is a bit much.
I also have another similar issue in which I have taken my personal AideRSS feed through Feedburner in order to give it to other people (Why? See here)
I've already got 3 subscribers but it seems that the feed updates very infrequently. Is there any way to speed this up?
A possibly good option would be a button for the user to force a manual refresh.
I’m a bit annoyed
-
Just to confirm, the 18 hours number was what was listed for your feed on our site? (Just confirming if your feed got caught in a prior backlog.) Your feed's currently listed as updated three hours ago, so that's improved. -
Indeed Melanie. This is what AideRSS showed as last update (it went up to 24h actually). Eventually it updated. -
It looks like it correlates to a big traffic spike we had -- took a while for the system to chew through the analysis. -
Hmmm, might that have anything to do with the 700 new blogs I imported? *innocent eyes* -
We can handle traffic a little more robust than that. :)
