Pricing, through Verizon vs. Airset. Is a Storm Brewing?
I tried airset for my group and was very pleased. We all have blackberry storms with verizon. I am now ready to purchase a premium service and it has two options, One is $3.99/mo through airset, the other is 6.99 through verizon. What is the difference? Also I can't find airset brew as an option on the verizon home page on my storm.

Inappropriate?Hi Eric,
For smartphones like the Blackberry, iPhone, and Windows Mobile devices, the direction we are headed is to support the ActiveSync and SyncML standards. These phones either directly support these standards or you can buy clients for a one time fee. Your AirSet data is then synced to the native address book and calendar in the phone. We expect to have this new support in the early fall. -
Brian, I'm a longtime airset user and a new Blackberry Storm user. I downloaded the generic java version of airset and have been using it for a few days. Am I correct in interpreting your message above that right now the airset data is only maintained within the java application on the Storm, but come this fall it will integrate with the native calendar? -
Yes, Kevin, that is our plan. -
Hi Brian, any update on when we might see native blackberry calendar support? I really don't like the generic java version of airset mobile. -
Inappropriate?Brian, do you have an ETA for when native calendar support for Blackberry will be available? Need Beta testers?
-
Kevin, I'm sorry to say that it will be a while before we have Blackberry sync. The Blackberry does not natively support the ActiveSync protocol we use for over-the-air sync to smartphones. There are 3rd party ActiveSync clients but we have not been able to find one that is low cost so we will be forced to either develop one of our own or implement some other solution (like SyncML). If things change we will post an update. -
Inappropriate?Brian,
I did a Google search and there are a few ActiveSync applications available for the Blackberry, such as NotifySync and AstraSync. They are pricy, but may be worth it for some people to be able to automatically sync their airset calendars to their blackberrys.
My question is this... does AirSet publish its calendar data or make it available in a format that would be usable by a NotifySync type product? I will download a trial of the product and try to get it working with AirSet, but will need some guidance as to if the Airset servers even publish data in a format that is consumable by ActiveSync clients.
Please advise.

Kevin,
If these products support the ActiveSync protocol they might work right out of the box with our ActiveSync support. If not, it would not be hard for us to tweak the server to support one of these. Do you know which one is considered better? -
Inappropriate? They both purport to support ActiveSync. I downloaded AstraSync to my Storm and couldn't get it to work - kept getting an error. Haven't even tried NotifySync yet. Both products are a little pricy ($50 for Astra and $100 for Notify). Perhaps if you can get one of them working you can reach an agreement for a much lower cost with a MUCH MUCH larger distribution by co-marketing to your subscribers.

It is worth talking to them, I'll try to find out which one has a better reputation and we'll do some testing with both. I suspect the high price tag is because they are typically selling to large corporations with MS Exchange Servers who are not so price sensitive. -
Inappropriate? Thanks, I appreciate it. I've totally been bitten by the real time nature of my Blackberry (after being a palm user for years) and hope there's a real time calendaring solution using Airset and the native BB calendar soon.
