Suggest email recap of all new content
Hello, I have set up airset for our networking group and am having a hard time getting our members to use it. I think the problem is the need to log in and poke around for new content - as our group is not active in utilizing airset yet, it is a real fishing expedition for the users. I found the activity log and creating a link to that on a web page in publish - but that is still having to log in, remember where to go and look ... currently unless I missed something the only notices that go out are calendar related, any changes in all other content is basically go and look. If a member forgets about the activity log link (since it is not listed as part of your desktop interface or in the application list) it is go to each application (forum, list, links, etc.) and look for new content.
I highly recommend adding the feature where a member can get an email update of ALL new content / changes made to the web computer since their last visit or update. And the member could select how often to receive these updates.
This way when a member posts to the forum, if there is an interest in the topic it will get discussion instead of sitting there because no one knows about the new thread or comment. Also those users of airset who are not serious users of airset will have an easier time becoming used to it and wanting to use it themselves.
Thanks,
Roger

Inappropriate?Hi Roger, great minds... :-) we are currently in testing on our next major release which is internally called the "Notifications" release. The system will automatically generate emails to users with info on who changed what in the group and a link to the changed item back in AirSet. So stay tuned... We expect to release this in about a month. We are already using it internally (and loving it!). You can set a default Notification frequency for the group and individual users can over-ride this with a personal preference. Here is a pic of a sample email:

Inappropriate? Thanks Brian - very cool - I can't wait, it will really help members of our group get on board with airset!
You probably have this on your list but you might consider having the ability for the user to filter what content they get, by application and by tags ... some users might find that there are areas they know they don't care about, just becoming noise to wade through ...
I’m Super Excited

Inappropriate? The Notifications release will have the ability to filter by application but not by tag (although that is a good idea, I'll put it on the list for future improvements). For Web Publish documents you will also be able to select an option where you only follow selected documents by subscribing to them, so instead of getting notifications whenever anyone changes any document (the default) you can indicate just the docs you want to follow. Web Publish is a great tool for collaborative document editing. For example in our company we have a number of detailed spec documents created and maintained in Web Publish and stored in the Engineering directory. Marketing folks don't need or want to follow every change so they can turn on filtering to only get notifications on Changes to Web Publish documents that they choose to follow.

Inappropriate? Thanks! Totally makes sense - I really like the way you have it set up.

Inappropriate? Can I put in a plea for group admins to be able to turn off notifications for their grumpy/ technophobe group members who seem completely unable to do anything at their end themselves......argh!
I’m trying to convert folk to Airset , one user at a time!

As currently implemented, the organizer can set the default for the entire group, but not for individual users in the group, each user can then override the default. The options are: 1) to get notifications as they happen; 2) to get a daily summary of changes; and 3) to not get emails of notifications (they can still check changes on a new desktop dialog). So you could turn it off for everyone, then send everyone an email saying, "If you are interested in being notified by email when changes are made..." and instruct them on how to change their settings (an option in the new Activity dialog on the desktop). -
Inappropriate?Check out the screen shot tour for the upcoming Activity Feed feature:

This should address the concern that Roger brought up.

Inappropriate?Good news.. "email recap of all new activities" a.k.a. "Activity Feeds" are now available to our users! :)
As current users (as of 8 pm PST on 5/21/2009), the default setting for these Activity Feeds email is to receive an update at the end of the day. But you can adjust the frequency that you would like to receive these.
Here is a screenshot tour on our AirSet User Lounge website (use.airset.com): http://tinyurl.com/pp8kyp
Hope this helps!

Thanks! I'll pass that on to Chris, the engineer who implemented Notifications I know he will appreciate it :-)
