The World is Not Enough!
My computer needs repair and I would like to upload all my stuff. I know I'll need to purchase storage, but before, I need to understand the reliability of the download side. I experimented with my iTunes and found I could only upload 1 song at a time.( Lot's of work). If this is the case for uploading what about downloading. I really need to make sure this works. Any suggestion would be welcomed. Also I've searched high and low for web personal organizers and data organizers "Zoho" doesn't even come close. I don't think your looking at all your possibilities. All your info always and organized across platforms to use in your many applications. Wow!

Inappropriate? If I understand correctly, your physical desktop/laptop computer is going in for repairs and you would like to back up your files before you send it in for repairs.
If this is the situation, a better alternative is to back up your files to an external hard drive, using a free or low cost sync software program. I am sure that you could do this with AirSet, it would be a labor intensive process if you have very many files spread across many folders.

Jim
P.S. Some of my favorite ads are those comparing PC to Mac. :)

Thanks Jim
With all the different devices and platforms, I need organized access and a place to securely put everything. Mac products are great, but very limited and expensive. That's why I can only afford just an iMac and no other gadgets. If my computer crashes but I still have work to do I can use the library internet to work in airset and everything, I hope, will be there. I could use a memory stick for music or files, put the teenagers seem to run-off with them or they get misplaced or I can't remember which is on which. I'd just like everything in one spot. Downloading, editing and syncing important are features. Apples storage is to proprietary, limited and crapping. Oops did I just say that!

Inappropriate?Ok, I think I understand your use of the cloud computer a little better now. AirSet will work for what you are trying to do, up to a point. I believe the most storage available is 20 gigs, which is quite a bit, but quickly gets used up when you are storing larger files, such as pictures and graphics. So the amount of storage needed should be determined before you start uploading files.
As for ease of uploading or downloading files in AirSet, you have no need for concern. It is simple and painless. You can upload or download multiple files at once, as long as they are in the same folder. Large numbers of large files will take a long time to upload or download. IOW, if you are uploading a hundred pictures at 2-3 megs each, the time will be measured in hours. OTOH, if you resize the pictures to a more manageable level, then the upload will go very quickly. The trade off is that the pictures won't look as good if they are printed. So, if you have a large number of pictures, you may want to look at picasa, flickr, or some other photo sharing site.
Accessing your files will be easy on AirSet. However, this is not the same as syncing your files. So any changes you make to a file on your desktop will not be reflected in your AirSet files unless you upload the file to AirSet after any changes are made.
You may want to sync all of your files to an external hard drive and only upload files that are critical in nature--IOW, the files that you couldn't live without for the 3-4 days it takes for your computer to be repaired.
Also, don't overlook files that are proprietary to a particular piece of software. These types of files are worthless without the software required to open them. If that software is not running on the back up desktop, then those files will not be usable.

Great summary, Jim.
I will only correct one item - the standard amount of storage that comes with an AirSet Premium Cloud Computer is 20G, but you can add up to 50G more for a total of 70G. -
Thanks for the correction. I was unaware that we could go up to 70 Gigs. I am very pleased that AirSet offers that much storage. -
Inappropriate?
- Also, be sure to use the java uploader which lets you upload whole directory structures, so for example you could take the whole Pictures folder on your PC/Mac and upload it to your cloud computer. It even will give you the option of scaling the pictures as part of the upload process. Digital cameras today take very high res pics, if you mainly expect to be looking at the pictures on your PC it doesn't make sense to upload 5 meg pixel pics because the typical PC screen is only 1 megapixel, so a 1024X768 image is as large are you ever likely to use.
- We are also working on even better file system integration, like letting your cloud computer storage look just like another hard disk to your PC or Mac so that you can use Windows Explorer or the Mac finder to drag and drop files. As Jim points out, you still have the issue the uploads can take a long time for a lot of large files but at least it is easy to start a bunch of files uploading and then go do something else.
- On the security front, we store 3 copies of every file on three physically different hard drives on our servers so your files are safe (and you are really getting 3 times as much storage as you are paying for) and everything is stored encrypted so they are also secure.

That is cool that the java uploader will upload the whole directory--didn't know that. Thanks for the correction.
