Upcoming Feature: Know what's going on in your group
I want to share a sneak peak of the upcoming Activity Feed feature with you.
With this feature, when content is added to or changed in your group’s Web Computer, every registered member can receive notification about the change via email!
This new feature will be a good way to help everyone in a group to be "in the know." We are also hoping that this new feature will become especially useful to group organizers -- who may have had challenges in convincing others to use AirSet.
As a member, if you choose, you can find out in real time the changes that other members made to appointments, meeting schedules, discussion forum threads, files, web documents, and more in your group’s Web Computer. You can also choose to NOT receive any notifications or only receive it once a day at the end of the day.
If you are a current AirSet user, after the release, you will be receiving a combined Activity Feed report at the end of the day. But you will be able to change the default setting easily by following a link in the "Activity Feed Email."
Take a look at this quick screen shot tour for a sneak preview. We are planning on releasing this towards the end of this week.

Inappropriate? My own personal opinion is that I do not care at all for this feature. Rather than assume people want this annoying feed (it borders on SPAM to me), you really needed to set it up not to have it on by default, but to have it off (like a newsfeeder). I can then choose to turn it on, rather than struggle to get rid of it. When I went to get rid of the notifications, I get annoying server errors (both in IE and Chrome). I ended up erasing my email address and having to reconfirm. Unfortunately my company has chosen to use Airset. Personally I find as many things I do not like, as I do about the functionality.
I’m frustrated

I am sorry to hear of the difficulties. Could you provide more information about "server errors" ? I am not able to reproduce this in either IE or Chrome - personal email preferences around notifications were designed to be very easy to set, precisely to allow for easy personal customization. Your company also has the option to disable notifications for employees by default, if they'd prefer employees not be kept up to date about company Web Computer activity. -
Just to add to Doug's comment, this feature was frequently requested by a lot of users because without it, they have to constantly scan through all of AirSet to know if a member of their group has added some useful information somewhere. If we had defaulted the feature to being off, how would users even know the feature was added? As Doug pointed out, we put a link in every email to let users turn the feature off if they don't find it to be useful. -
Inappropriate?I have attached a screen capture of the error I got when trying to change my email preferences on the activity feed for "All Web Computers". I had to go to each web computer to make the change in the end. The "unsubscribe" link is what led me to eventually wipe my email address.
I also was trying to change frame headers in IE on the College Template and it would not let do that. I surmise it is a conflict in IE. When I switched to Chrome the change stuck.
As to the functionality:
My company is a training company. We provide training on industry best practices called IT Service Management (Itil). We tell learners that putting required functionality into production is good, but only if Change and Release Management best practices have ensured that it will not cause a disruption in the level of service already provided. These processes allow you to create awareness and prepare users for new and upcoming functionality.
I do not know if the Airset team follows these IT best practices, but it might be something to look into.
I’m undecided

Inappropriate? Thanks, I have been able to reproduce the error (in All Web Computers), and have reported the problem to the engineer - I expect he will get right on it.
As to how best create awareness and preparing users for new and upcoming functionality, it's a hot topic here, but easier said than done - particularly without itself becoming a source of disruption. In the case of notifications, we have chosen to put out announcements in places such as here, but rather than send out yet more email, rely on the initial notification email to in effect announce itself (demonstrating the usefulness in the context of the user's account and with a "What's this?" link and links to change preferences). My apologies again that there is an issue with this in All Web Computers.
