How to stop the "free" newspaper deliveries?
What must somebody do to prevent the "free" Thursday newspapers from being delivered, wasting trees, and from littering my front lawn?
I've already called — at least a year ago — and spoke with several employees in the Customer Service organization who assured me the papers would stop.
Yet they continue.
Wasting trees.
Wasting water turning those trees into paper.
Polluting the environment.
And littering my front lawn.
I don't read the newspaper.
I get all my news "online".
All I'm asking is for the deliveries to stop.
I didn't sign up for them.
Is that too much to ask?

Inappropriate?Hello, Gellenburg. Thanks for your note. Occasionally due to human error a "stop" is accidentally pulled back onto the distro, but this is easily remedied and I'm happy to help. Removing you from distro will not be a problem. I'd be happy to zip your info over to customer care myself, but they'll need your address and as this is a public forum, so for security reasons, best not to post here. Customer Care will be happy to help, though-- they can be reached at 404 522 4141, and be sure to bypass the auto message and dial 0 to speak directly to a customer care rep; they're available during normal business hours. Thanks again for writing.

Didn't work. Still receiving the papers. How many trees and paper are being wasted by all this? I'm sure I'm not the only one who doesn't want to receive these newspapers. -
Inappropriate?I just spoke with "Felicia" who said she's "written this up" to have the deliveries stopped.
We'll see next week!
Here's hoping.
Thanks for the quick response.
I’m hopeful

Inappropriate?Still getting the "free" newspapers, even after having cancelled them. Got one last Thursday, and the Thursday before that.
I’m irritated

Inappropriate?Just a quick update - still got the free newspaper littering my front lawn yesterday morning.
Does anyone else have any other suggestions?
I’m not amused

Inappropriate?Gellenburg,
Please go to eveningedge.com and if you can share your direct email address through the "Tell Us What You Think?" link, I'll take up the conversation with you. I'd like to see to it that we solve your issue. Thanks for keeping in touch. -
Inappropriate? If you want to do more than just Stop Junk Mail that comes to your home, this site might also be of interest to you. Stopping Free Papers. It is a free service and they help you stop the delivery of all the free papers that are thrown in your driveway. The site is sponsored by MyJunkTree and it is totally free!

Inappropriate?i just called to cancel the evening edge for the 2nd time.. told to wait 2 weeks for it to process.. seeing as how this paper is totally unsolicited i see this as nothing more than LITTERING IN MY YARD ON A WEEKLY BASIS. if the paper doesn't stop being delivered then i will likely start a pile of them in my basement, create a website to collect all these papers from others, and then i will dump them in the front yard of people at the top of the AJC foodchain.. either that or i will see if i can turn them in to some environmental agency for littering. keeping my fingers crossed this trash stops.
I’m tired of spammers

Inappropriate?my 2nd attempt to cancel the Evening Edge has failed, and i even gave them 4 weeks instead of 2 weeks for 'processing'.. something tells me i will have better luck talking to the driver than getting AJC to stop throwing this unsolicited litter in my yard.
I’m not surprised

Inappropriate?I have a lot of experience dealing with this, and I have successfully stopped three “free” paper deliveries from landing in my driveway. Unfortunately (for me) one attempt landed me in jail for harassment (apparently you cannot threaten to collect all of the papers from driveways and dump them on someone’s desk.) $3000.00 in attorney fees and a years worth of probation later I’ve come to realize that the only way to accomplish this task is to have an attorney send the paper a letter on your behalf. For whatever reason they will take your attorney more seriously then they do you.
An attorney will send a letter for you for a reasonable fee, and it’s worth every penny. I wish I would have thought of it before I actually needed the attorney to represent me in court for the harassment charge.
The problem is that the delivery people are some of the biggest bottom feeders in society. Essentially they are doing about all they are qualified to do. Most newspapers will furnish them with a list of the addresses where people have requested the delivery be stopped, however the delivery people usually do not read the list (this is presumably outside of their job description, and qualification.)
However, if the paper believes you are willing to take legal action against them they will make sure the delivery loser is informed personally. However, you should be aware that delivery people have a very high turnover rate, and a new delivery person may resume the delivery. In these instances simply have the attorney’s office send another letter (usually they will send additional letters for free after the initial fee is paid.)
It’s a damn shame that a person should have to take such steps to stop littering of this nature, but it really is about the only option. When I was charged with harassment for attempting to stop one paper I was literally abducted from my home while working in my garage by eight armed men (police officers.) My family, inside of the house, had no idea what had happened to me. I had to sell my boat to pay the attorney fees. I realize the error of my ways, so now they deal only with my attorney, and they know I will file illegal dumping AND harassment charges against them if another paper hits my property, so a real effort is now made to make sure I never have a paper at the end of my driveway.
I mentioned that a new delivery person may accidentally leave a paper. In those instances, when my attorney contacts them, they actually send someone out to my house to pick the paper up for me. It is very gratifying to see that happen.
Only an attorney can stop the delivery for you, you will never be taken seriously by the paper without one. It’s sad, but it is true. Trust me, my battle lasted for years and landed me in jail. I learned a lot from the experience. -
Inappropriate?Additionally, several of your neighbors can split up the attorney fee and the attorney can write a letter that represents the wishes of both you and your neighbors.

Inappropriate?I've been trying to stop AJC from dumping their weekly trash on my lawn for a long time. I have gotten them to stop for a while. I have also once been able to get them to come pick it up. I spoke with someone on the phone today who claims to be Nate Williams the area manager for DeKalb county. Nate was unwilling to send someone out to collect their trash. They have no problem sending someone out here to dump a bag of mystery trash on my lawn but the can't send anyone out to collect it. I spoke with the police. I've now sent them a certified letter, to Charles Parker VP of legal affairs demanding that they stop. If they drop one more bag of trash on my lawn someone is going to jail and the AJC is paying for professional hazmat cleanup of their mystery bag.
How hard is it for them to simply leave me alone?
What is their compulsion that drives them to illegally enter my property and dump trash?
I'll post a followup after the first arrest or civil suit.
