If my fire alarm goes off by accident, how would I cancel the call to the Fire Department?

Different rules apply for the Fire Department and with good reason. The decision was made to err on the side of safety. For example, a signal may be sent because there is indeed a fire, but a person calling to cancel it may not have yet seen the evidence encountered by the detector. So, the decision is to err on the side of safety.

Inappropriate? This has happened to me. I am waiting to learn the answer so I may act appropriately to be sure the Fire Department does not spend unnecessary time and resources responding to an unneeded alarm. They can then continue to be ready to respond to a real fire emergency. I truly respect the Fire Department's dedication to protecting the citizens of Ann Arbor and their property. I want to be certain they can rest assured that they are not needed, and how to take the steps to make that happen. What does a citizen do?

Inappropriate? You can try calling the non-emergency number (looks like it's (734) 994-2911 in Ann Arbor), and let them know that the alarm is false, and they don't need to send anyone.
I get the burglar alarm set on me at work by people in different parts of the building, and a phone call to the local non-emergency number takes care of it, so I don't see why it wouldn't work in the fire dept. -

Soooo, the answer is that you cannot cancel a call to the fire department. Makes me wonder why you asked the question in the first place . . . -
Inappropriate? When I originally posted the question, it came from a constituent and then I later got answers from the Fire Department, which I should have posted here some time ago. I had also hoped to get others more involved with this site, which did not happen. Maybe I just have to try again and post more info myself.
