What do I need to get a permit to film in the Ann Arbor?
Different cities have such different requirements and fees. It really makes a difference for how appealing a location is for shooting. Of course, NYC has some of the highest fees and requirements, but everybody still wants to film there. Where does Ann Arbor come out on this? Also, is there a separate type of film permit for student films?
Is there a Film Commission?

Inappropriate?I think this is the search that leads to an answer:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&si...
which leads to this PDF
http://www.a2gov.org/CommunityService...
which is the permit for a "Non-Competitive Special Event".
Reading through the requirements, I see lots of insurance fees, lots of signatures required, and lots of separate forms from separate departments.
Filming on the U of Michigan campus would be completely different set of issues.
The folks at the Ann Arbor Film Festival surely know more.
I’m permissable

Inappropriate? You don't need a permit for general filming on the street in Ann Arbor, according to City Hall. If you're going to close roads, block traffic, use hazardous equipment or otherwise cause an obstruction then, yes, you are going to need some kind of permit to close off a street in whole or in part, but that would be for any activity, not just filming. Ask at City Hall if you're doing any of those things, otherwise, just go out and make your film.
