Why is my mac just blowing air instead of starting up? Last reply on March 14, 2008 18:01.

I have a 2003 ibook G4 that's been working fine for the last four years or so. Until yesterday. When I press the power button now, nothing comes up on the screen (it remains completely black as if it were shut off). There is no "i've just turned on" chime either. All that happens is that the fan (i guess) starts blowing like crazy - this whirring, buzzing, blowing sound with air blowing out of the back. If I leave it like this it will simply continue indefinitely. It's really quite loud and frightening. If i try to shut it off by holding the power button down nothing happens either. To stop it I have to unplug the cord and pop the battery. Does anyone have any idea what's going on? Is my computer finally just dead?

I love you, but you just broke my heart because my iBook is toast. Last reply on November 19, 2007 17:49.

Loyal customer since 1989. Extolled both the virtues of the company as well as the products themselves. Partly became a designer out of the joy the products give me.

Now desperate because my computer is DEAD because of a faulty logic board, and I probably won't be able to get my files off of it. I'm on my way to the Genius bar, but am not hopeful.

I don't expect to get a refund for the problem, although that's the least you can do (or pay for a soldiering job - especially since I am a soldier in the Evangelical Apple Movement, too). I'm just frustrated because it's a problem that can be solved, and also because yet another corporation has screwed a customer over. What's sadder still is that I still love the company like a sad puppy, and will probably buy a Macbook after this. It's just the state of Corporate Relations, 2007 I guess.
