So, sitting in my underwear at 9:30am, I watch the live keynote updates, like a dork, and wait for this not-so-mysterious laptop to make it's debut.
Steve pulls the lever. Online store opens. I'm clicking furiously, racing the world to checkout.
Upgrade the processor to 1.8ghz, get one of those slim superdrives, add an external ethernet adapter, need an apple remote (what's another 19 dollars, right?), must have apple care, because the first generation of these are going to have horrible birth defects.
Now I'm at 2700 + 185 in tax. Free shipping, thanks, but I upgraded that too (what's another 15 dollars, right?)
$2885 for a laptop, eh.
I sat on this order for a day and half, and today, I swiftly cancelled the Air order and bought a Macbook Pro.
What an enormous weight off my conscience.
I got a much faster processor, built in dual layer burner, larger screen, comparable battery life, ethernet port, firewire (still use it), the little remote, big and fast hard drive, multiple USB ports, standard DVI, and a removable battery.
All of that for a similar price point.
Did anyone else crunch those features and come to the same conclusion?
The only way I'd get an Air is if they upgrade the processor, reduce the footprint, make the keyboard silver, allow me to replace the battery and include the solid state drive as a standard option.
Unleash your inner crank, and cleverly dump on this thing with me.
BTW, I went to Macworld after ordering, and the machine is really impressive. Tiny, cute, trackpad features were really cool. Screen is, of course, beautiful.
