Albums & Images lost in iPhoto

I have moved lots of images from date-numbered folders into new or renamed folders to make them more easily identifiable . However, now I cannot find the images and albums in iPhoto's library. I am running OSX and IPhoto5. The images are still available as jpegs in Preview. Is there a way to restore the links between these images and the albums, in the iPhoto library?
