Apple should allow for app's to run in the background on the iPhone.

Although the push notifications introduced with firmware 3.0 is great, certain app's would benefit from being able to run in the background. App's like TomTom (so you can still hear navigation instruction while on a call), Last.fm/Spotify (so you can listen to music while doing other stuff on the iPhone) and Skype (maybe a daemon that waits for incoming calls?) would all benefit from background support.

Maybe you could have a system in a future firmware update where you can run any app in the background, but you can only run say 3 apps at a time. Maybe you could have a glow around the icon of a running app to tell the user it is running?
