Inappropriate?Yes, as long as you're aware that you cannot use the phone with another service. AT&T will sell you the phone without forcing you to sign up for their service, but you cannot use the phone feature. If you're planning on buying a phone, simply to sell it on ebay, don't count on making a huge profit. If you check the auctions, some iPhones are not getting bids and if they are, it's not much more than the original price.

Inappropriate?Yeah, the iphone is pretty much useless if you don't activate it with ATT. You can't even use the iPod.

actually if you jailbreak the phone you can use everything including the phone with t mobile instead of att. -
