Can I move shows purchased on my Apple TV to my Mac?
I purchased a season of a TV show directly on my Apple TV, now I can't seem to watch them on any of my Mac's or worse - I can't sync them to an iPod/iPhone. Any idea of how to sort this out?

Inappropriate?Huh. That shouldn't be the case. You're using version 2.0 of the Apple TV software, right? And, did you set up Apple TV to sync with iTunes?

Inappropriate?Ahh, no right now it's set to 'stream'. Let me try sync and get back to you.
I’m unsure
-
Inappropriate?Awesome! That did the trick. For other people who have the same issue:
I had to go into iTunes > Preferences > Apple TV and remove the associated AppleTV. Then I had to 'Reconnect to iTunes' from the Apple TV. Once I reconnected in iTunes the purchased items started downloading from the Apple TV.
I’m happy

Inappropriate? If you buy a tv show on the apple tv, without using iTunes to make the purchase, how do you then delete the show? the show is not in iTunes, it's only on the Apple TV. There's no delete option.
-
Inappropriate?yes there is. if you highlight the show using the AppleTV remote and just wait, a little delete trash can appears right next to it.

Inappropriate?Although this is an old topic that was answered 6 months ago, I was wondering if there is a way to transfer a purchased video to iTunes from the AppleTV WITHOUT syncing the two. I ask because I have over 300 movies and about 25 TV shows in my iTunes and a 40gb AppleTV. I don't want anything moved to the ATV for obvious reasons. Any thoughts? Apple, if you're listening, it would be great if we could click on AppleTV in iTunes and see what's on it, then just click and download to iTunes. Would definitely make things easier.

Inappropriate?Bob, there is a way to do that, it's just a bit or a round-about approach. Start to sync your AppleTV, but immediately click the black circle with the 'X' in it to the right of the sync progress bar. This will stop the sync process. Once the process has stopped, access the various tabs in iTunes' sync screen to selectively choose what you want to sync.
If you don't see any of your AppleTV purchases as available items to sync, just set your AppleTV to sync anything (even a single song), and all of your AppleTV purchases should be transfered to iTunes. -
Inappropriate? Is there a way to transfer purchased items from ATV without your computer syncing a ton of crap (ie: music) onto the ATV? I have 70 gigs of purchased items on my ATV and i wanna back it all up on my hard drive, but every time i sync i see items in the list that are on my computer not the ATV. it would be nice if there was a function such that the itouch has where purchased items are automatically synced from the itouch to the computer. i would like purchased items to sync from ATV to my computer! please help!

Inappropriate?I had the same problem. I wanted to do a factory restore and re-download my purchases from Apple, but Apple support said that I couldn't download some of my purchases, because they were no longer available or "modified".
Apple really frustrated me with this. My purchases are stuck on Apple TV due to a bug, and I can't even get a refund?
So I decided to install ssh on my apple TV, and manually copy my purchases to my computer, following these instructions:

It's not that hard actually. You'll need an empty USB drive and basic knowledge of the terminal. The installation of ssh on the apple TV lets you access the files on it.
To copy your purchases on the apple TV to your Documents folder, type this at the terminal once you have ssh installed on the apple TV:
scp -r 'frontrow@appletv.local:/mnt/Media/Purchased\ Files' ~/Documents
( password: frontrow )
I’m frustrated

this is the information i was looking for. thank you browser_senior. i have been searching for that (just ssh-ing in doesn't locate that folder...at least not with cyberduck). i couldn't figure out where the purchased content was stored and was going crazy because my laptop crashed a year ago and it died with no backup. all our movies, photos etc was backed up in the appletv. i was able to recover everything but what i bought from the applestore. unfortunately since then we've downloaded tons of stuff from the apple store into our apple tv but haven't been able to sync any of it back to the mac (since the machine originally synced to the appletv died).
now i am watching all the files copy nicely in the terminal...works great!
now finally i will be able to reset my appletv and let it sync with my mac without loosing all my data.
i am a devout mac fan but i have to say shame on you apple for making me jump through so many hoops to get back what is mine.
the apple tv should be a natural backup device as well as a media device. to cut off the ability to use it as a backup device is darn not cool and seems to be one of those things i used to attack microsoft for... -
Inappropriate?Great Solved my problem to - just what I needed
