Can't get high resolution on 30" Cinema Display from MacBook Pro (late 2008)
I've just acquired the video dongle for my MacBook Pro (MiniDisplay -> DVI). When I plugged my 30" cinema display in, however, the display settings won't offer an option for a resolution higher than 1280x800. I'm stuck looking at a low-resolution on a large monitor.
How can I get a better resolution?

Inappropriate? If you have the new MacBook Pro (with the two GPUs) use the "high-end" NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT chip and not the other one (even though both are supposed to support 30 inches).

Inappropriate?I have the same problem - they told me you need a special DVI adaptor to get the full res. The kicker is they don't have them and won't for up to 8-9 weeks. I am returning mine. This is a poor reflection on apple. The store said the macbook pro supports it, and that you need nothing additional. I questioned them repeatedly, they said it would work and even asked a Genius. The box and book for the display also says it is supported by a macbook pro. NO mention of any additional adaptor.

Inappropriate?I have the same problem too. I just bought the display adaptor today and have called Apple technical support in the USA as the UK lines are now closed for today. The tech consultant tried to find articles about this but could not locate anything.

Inappropriate?I was advised that this is the adapter needed to get the proper, higher resolution: Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB5... They're now [finally] shipping. I'll update my response when mine arrives and I can test it.

Inappropriate? The miniDisplayPort to DVI adapter is only one channel of DVI.
The monitor only reports to the computer that it has one channel and therefore can only 'listen to' the lower resolution of pixels.
To get the full resolution of the monitor, you'll need the miniDisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI adapter. It consumes both the miniDisplayPort and a USB port for power.
