Fix for faulty Ipod Touch clock so I don't miss history again?
Why do the date and time on my iPod Touch keep resetting to the wrong times? I was hoping to use the alarm on the clock to wake up to watch the inauguration today, but when I woke, I had missed it, and the date and time on the clock said 11:30 AM, January 9, 2009. This keeps happening, and it is really frustrating. I just missed history.

Inappropriate? The iPod's clock is set by the computer you sync it with. Make sure your computer's time is up to date. Usually on any computer, double clicking the time will allow you to adjust it and most allow you to 'sync time with server' so you have digital accuracy.
-
Inappropriate? The only other thing I could suggest is reinstalling the firmware. I'm not sure where it would go wrong. If it's still under applecare, take it in or call to have it replaced.
-
Inappropriate? The thing is, I looked it up, and it looks like a number of people are having this problem. I even tried resetting this time, and it took a couple times for it to reset to the right time/date.
I’m meh

Inappropriate?Hm. Is it Gen. 1 or Gen. 2?
-
Inappropriate? It's generation 2. I just got it. I use it a lot, but the calendar and clock problems are problematic. There is something really crushing about something so basic not working on something so complicated.
-
Inappropriate?It's definitely under AppleCare then.
If you're nearby an Apple Store, make an appointment to the Genius Bar. Tell them you've already talked to Tier 2 and 3 support and they should exchange it for you right there. Back up your music and such before you go (if you use a Mac, google Senuti; iTunes backwards)

Inappropriate? What about stuff I bought from iTunes, like apps? Will I still have those?
-
Inappropriate?I am concerned because I have spent so much time loading it up and getting it exactly how I want/need it.
-
Inappropriate?OK, I will have to go to an Apple store next time I am near one. I am currently in Athens, OH, which is nowhere near one.
-
Inappropriate?Michigan is no better. I'm 20 minutes from the nearest one, but granted I'm in Metro Detroit. Once you venture out, they're nowhere to be found.

Inappropriate?I found the fix on another site. Apparently, iTunes messes up the clock and calendar during a sync when the program is left open during sleep sleep mode. Why? I don't know. I have never liked iTunes, and right now, the only thing keeping me from completely going to Songbird is my iPod Touch.
However, with this news and the knowledge that Songbird can interface with my iPod, I may be switching over and only using iTunes for things like the app store.
I’m disappointed in Apple

Inappropriate?I have the same problem with my 1st gen iPod on rare occasions. After I sync it, the date and time can go as far as five years into the past. I think it's just a problem with the sync software. Just check the time on your iPod after you sync it, and if it doesn't match, sync it again, and that should take care of it. Also check that the time zone is set correctly in Settings->General->Date and Time.
I’m confident

Inappropriate?I had the same problem with an iPod touch, 2nd generation, firmware 3.1.2.
I'm assuming this problem is limited to Windows computers.
It appears to be related with the time zone not matching between the ipod and Windows. That confuses iTunes, which messes up the time for the iPod.
First, set it on the disconnected iPod:
select the menus:
Settings->General->Date&Time->Then set the "Time Zone" as well as "Date&Time".
Then, on your windows PC, with iTunes turned off, set the time region.
On a windows XP PC, double click the clock in the bottom right corner,
Then select "Time zone" tab and set it correctly. This will mess up the time & date on your PC so be sure to correct them.
Finally, connect the iPod to the computer and start iTunes. In the first instant of a sync, notice the clock in your iPod changes.
This appears to have solved the problem, though I'm not sure who/what messed up with my regional settings on the PC and set it to international.
