Inappropriate?any webcam that is USB CLASS will work with your mac. Look for ones with the Vista Approved logo. Those are usually cheap.

It is not necessary that any USB-connectable webcam will work. I have a Logitech one, but since there are no Mac drivers id doesen't work. You should only look for cameras that are Mac-ready.
For the microphone: you can use any microphone as long as it is connectable using the 3,5mm jack. -
Inappropriate?The XBOX webcam is a popular choice for Macs without iSights; it works without any drivers (it is a USB Video class webcam.)
