Having trouble using a microphone that used to work just fine on a Mac Pro
I have been using a USB based microphone/headphone for quite some time now, but for some reason, it has stopped working. The headphones work great, I am not getting anything from the microphone.
I have looked through all the obvious preference panes and they all seem to be set correctly, but still nothing.
Is there something I am missing with this?
P.S. And yes, I have checked to make sure the microphone is not muted. ;)

Inappropriate? If your headset is a Plantronics USB headset,
there's a known issue/fix that requires a trip to the Utilities Folder
From Apple Support
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.ht...
Solution
1) Make sure the device is connected to a USB port.
2) Open Audio MIDI Setup, which is in the Utilities folder
within the Applications folder.
3) Make sure the Default Input pop-up menu
(under System Settings) is set to the device.
4) Choose your device from the "Properties For" pop-up menu.
5) In the bottom right area of the window (under Audio Output),
deselect the "Mute" checkbox.

Inappropriate?Thank jmcgready, I actually found that info in Apple's support forums about 3 days ago. I should have probably posted the exact same data myself instead of keeping the info to myself.
What I will do is add this tip so that people with a similar setup will have an easier time dealing with a USB microphone.
There is a free program called "SoundSource" by Rogue Amoeba:
http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies/
It resides in Apple's Menu bar and allows you to switch your Input, Output, and System sound setting to what ever you wish easily without having to bring up the System Preferences.
It also has an entry to launch the Sound Preferences as well as the Audio MIDI setup program that allows you to "unmute" a USB microphone that has just been connected to your Mac.
They recently updated the program to add the entries in the menu for launching the Sound Preferences and Audio MIDI Setup programs. I didn't have that update at the time, so I didn't think to look at Audio MIDI Setup until I came across the Apple Support entry myself.
I hope this helps folks keep the sound on their computers playing they way they want it to. :)
