Help! I lost all my pictures in iPhoto!
I don't know what happened. I was working in iPhoto when I ran out of power. Put the power cable on, restarted and all my photos were gone, as well as albums etc.
In Finder I can still see them, but I can not reimport them to the library- I get the message "Unreadable files: The following file could not be imported. (The file is in the iPhoto Library folder). Does anyone know what happened and how I can get them back? They're not in the trash, either.

Inappropriate? If you have iPhoto on the Install Disc, make a backup and reinstall the system.
If you bought iLife apart, reinstall it.
I’m sad

Inappropriate?Hi, I have just suffered a similar problem - Iphoto loads OK, but all folders and albums have disappeared, Finder cannot see them anywhere. Has anyone had any useful feedback on solving this?

Inappropriate?I can still see all my photo's in their icon view in one of my folders but I can not drag any picture out of it and drop it anywhere (including desktop). Nor can I view those pictures in the large formate when you double click on one. When I do double click on any photo I get this large gray area with an explanation point in the center. Any suggestions or similar problems?
I’m FRUSTRATED

Inappropriate?Hi Philine!
Did you ever find a solution to this? Also, just wanted to say that I'm a fan of you felt sleeves, very cute!
I’m curious what happened.

no, never got a solution. most of my pics were backed up on a separate harddisk, some of them are just lost! Reinstalling iPhoto did not help.
Thanks for the compliment about the sleeves! -

Inappropriate?Look for your pics in
/Users/your username/Pictures/iPhoto Library
all my pics are there, but iPhoto thinks there are none

Inappropriate?I had this problem (couldn't see the pix in iphoto/couldn't drag them back into iphoto from iphoto library) occur after an ice storm power outage. I was able to "recover" the photos using this advice from an Apple tech friend:
Rebuild your iphoto library:
1.) Quit iphoto
2.) Relaunch iphoto while holding down the key combination below for your version...
- Option + Shift for iphoto 2
- Command + Option + Shift for iphoto 4
- Command + Option for iphoto 5
It will take a little white, but you will see the program running through your photo names!
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?I have the same problem that Terry is having, but I'm using iphoto 9 on my imac. My photos initially appear and then disappear. When i try to open them to a larger size the exclamation mark appears.....anyone know what to do?
-
I have the same problem as Trish and Terry. I can see the photo thumbnails but when I click on them to enlarge them, I get a big exclamation mark. Would be extremly helpful if someone can help me solve this issue as I will be very upset if Ive lost all my photos!! Thanks in advance! -

Inappropriate? As per everyone else I too had the misfortune of loosing photographs. Although I backup my computer, the last two backups I made backed up the problem so a re-install did not resolve the issue. In my case I lost all photo's uploaded in 2009. I tried all the usual things suggested, even took it to the genius bar, no luck. Have you checked the ORIGINALS folder. This folder can be accessed through USERS/PICTURES and CTRL clicking on the IPhoto folder. You will see a menu appear, choose SHOW PACKET CONTENTS and the contents will be shown. If you are lucky, the photos will be in their respective folders. In my case the ORIGINALS folder had been corrupted so in desperation I purchased Data Recovery II. What a wonderful tool, I recovered about 95-98% of the lost photos. I'm sure I would have recovered more had I been made aware NOT to load new applications, add, delete files or run disk utility software!. In any case it saved the day. Would highly recommend it, but be warning it can be a slow process depending on the number of photographs have been deleted. Hope that helps

Thank you so much Pete!
Luckily, I realised I have most photos saved on my camera so will import again. I understand that iphoto is simply tool to view photos but is not actually were photos are stored. Instead photos are stored within "orginals" document accessed via "show packet contents" of iphoto folder. Is my understanding correct? many thanks in advance! -
Inappropriate? That is correct. Its basically a database, the IPhoto front end just points to the files. If the database gets corrupted these pointers can get a little confused so to speak. Its best not to mess around with files in IPhoto folders, just use the Export and Import tools within IPhoto do do your work. Only if you have a problem should you ever go into the ORIGINALS folder. Good luck.

I have a mac book pro system 10.5.8 I life 09 I noticed your post and thought you might know what to do?
I created another iPhoto library on my external hard drive. With photos from 2007-2008 Deleted them from the main iPhoto. Then in 2008 I carbon copied my computer to the external hard drive. I ended up with 3 iPhoto libraries. I wanted to only have one on the external hard drive and today after not enough research I drug the iphoto icon on top of the one in the user folder on to the iphoto icon. The photos are not showing up in my iphoto library when I open the iphoto on the external HD. I do a rt click and open the iphoto package and the photos are all there with all information How do I get them to show up when I open the external hard drive or am I fried? Thanks for any help -
Inappropriate? If you lose photos during an upgrade to a newer version of iphotos, it may be that the program is looking at the wrong iphotos picture database.
Just search for the iphoto library on your hardrive and double click to open iphoto using that particular library. Iphoto will ask you if you'd like to switch to the new library.
That worked for me just now.
