iphone 3g dropped calls
I've had a lot of 'call failed' and dropped calls on my new iphone 3g. I regularly get no service, and 3G connectivity is really flaky. This is in San Francisco and along 101!

Inappropriate?Yup. I'm in Chandler, AZ. I get dropped calls with iPhone 3G whether I am on EDGE or 3G. Typical reception is quite poor no matter where I am. Basically it's the worst cell phone/service experience I have ever had in 10 years of use.
I’m disappointed

Inappropriate? There are days when I need to make a call three or four times before it gets through. I have version 2.0.2. My network provider (in Canada) advised me to use the chip that came with the iPhone, to no avail. Now I am asked to try with my old cell phone (but it'll take some time to get my hands on it)... I love the iPhone for all the apps and browsing, but, as a *phone*, pretty bad!
I’m randomly dropping calls

I hear you....in Calgary Alberta Canada...getting the good old message Failed call!!!!! BADDDDDD!!! -
Inappropriate?I am in Calgary Alberta Canada. Bought the i phone 3g for my son's birthday. Haven't even had it a week and failed calls!!! Very disappointed. This is happening to alot of his friends here as well. Yes Canada has a big problem with this too.....really bites.

Hey Munchkin, the upgrade fixed my phone too. I'm out of Lethbridge, any luck with your service??? -
Inappropriate?I have seen major improvements with the 2.1 version of the iPhone software. I may have had only 1 dropped call after the upgrade, in two weeks use. I think we can say that the release fixed the problem
I’m happy

Inappropriate?still a major problem in NYC. It's brutal to have no reliability when it comes to the phone. I spoke to an AT&T tech who admitted the problem is due to the demands on their 3G network and I should see a noticable improvement in Nov. This is ridiculous. It's my favorite device, least favorite phone.
Apple just posted their quarterly earnings which are due in large part to the iPhone so why can't they and At&t provide reliable service. The 2.1 update was disappointing after an initial improvement.

Inappropriate? After a month of conversation and talking with At&t and Apple they replaced my cell. it was 2h ago. I had so far four (yes!) capls failed!!!! What bothers me is that the guys at Apple store talked about this issue like they have heard it for the very first time! Only now I have went on the internet to find that many ppl have it. Why they were 'trying' to fix it by reinstallation of the os with specific request to restore backup 'as new' (so I lost all the data) if the issue is pretty much known to be not fixed?! I'm disappointed with kind of service on both part - AT&T and Apple.
I’m Disapointed

Inappropriate? The issue is sometimes fixed by a restore as new, if its and iphone software problem. there are 5 things that typically cause this sort of thing G. Techs have to narrow down which one it is in order to fix it. They have no way to tell which of the 5 it is except by "fixing" all 5 one by one till something works.
1. AT&T network (outages service area etc)
2. AT&T account provisioning (How they set up your account on AT&Ts system)
3. SIM card
4. Apple iphone software having a problem (could interfere with your connection to the network, fix with resetting network settings or restore as new)
5. iphone hardware failure (broken phone)
Typically a Customer calls AT&T and they say "Oh there is no outage, let me forward you to apple" since 1-3 are all AT&T issues apple says well lets rule out the software. Only way to rule that out is to delete the copy you have (and thus everything else too) and put a new copy on. If restore doesn't fix it you still have all these other possibilities. If your phone was replaced and you still have the problem then you have an AT&T problem. call AT&T and make sure you get escalated to the AT&T tech support, not apple. -
Inappropriate?I will go one step further. I have had my iPhone replaced twice, reset network settings, reprogrammed by Apple, sim card replaced by AT&T and still an average of 20 dropped calls today and I don't have to be moving at all. I have another appointment tomorrow for today I had 35 dropped calls and the last 15 were while I was sitting at my desk.
I love the mobile me sync feature but I am going to have to do something else for it effects my business with customers and my boss to continually call back and apologize for the dropped call.
I can't believe that Apple and AT&T can't resolve this problem. Before the iPhone I had the Blackberry curve and had frequent dropped calls but nothing compares to this.
