Is anyone else's Macbook losing plastic around the edge of the keyboard?
This seems to have started by the nubbins on the upper left and upper right of the screen hammering down on the edge of the keyboard. It's all crackly and little pieces of the top plastic are coming off.

Inappropriate?I had my case replaced after it was cracked all over after about 6 months old , but when i took it in it was 3 days over warranty, after alot of hassle and back and fourth to the shops , phone calls e mails etc , they replaced it for free. With what looks like the same casing used in the problem macbooks.
3 months on, it is showing sighs of weakness around where the magnets touch the top key case . Not happy really . they should just have put an aliminium case on as these ones are crap . Anyone managed that or know how to get them to do that ? chris .Uk and Norway
I’m Think they are better at taking your money than customer satisfaction

Inappropriate?Add one more person to the list. I was surprised to see pictures of the exact same crack on my machine. I bought mine in early 2008, so I've had it for about 18 months. I I have also had two iPhones replaced in 1 year. I'm less than impressed with Apple's quality in the last few years.

Inappropriate?Yes, Apple will replace the chipped area BUT, they replace it with the same defective material. Therefore several months down the road it will chip again. They have replaced mine more than once but what happens when I'm out of warranty? Then I'm stuck with this defective product.

Inappropriate? They've replaced mine twice (in warranty). The first time, they told me it was a defective part. The second time they told me it was my fault because I close it too hard - whatever that's ridiculous. It's cracked again now - I hope it's still in warranty but then I'm going to be without my computer for days - again.

Inappropriate?Apple is in the process of replacing my palm rest, plastic around the display and the plastic at the base of the computer. Over the phone I expressed my concern to the Apple rep handling my case..."it's being replaced with the same defective material and will eventually crack again". I also explained that I thought it was unfair to those whose warranty had expired. He said that even if your applecare is expired, Apple will continue to replace your palm rest (but no other area). So that' some good news.
I just hope they stick to their promise...and that nothing else cracks again except for the palm rest.

Inappropriate?i just had my casing replaced today...wonderful experience! it was not under warranty anymore and without applecare. because it is a manufacturer's defect they fixed it for FREE! awesome. and i inquired about what the replacement material would be. the guy at the genius bar told me that they actually have upgraded the materials several times, so i shouldn't have this problem again (they are not replacing the cracked plastic with the same defective plastic). i am super satisfied. i made an appt before i went in and they had all of the parts in stock...the whole process took about 45 minutes. i feel like i have a brand new computer. YAY!
I’m happy!!!

do you think they will replace yours if you have superglued on of the cracked pieces back on? i had a really big crack right where my wrist rubs that was rough so i had glued it back on, but now i have other cracks too. -
I'm surprised to hear that. Mine was just replaced a little over a week ago and I was told it's the same exact material. This is actually the third replacement of the palm rest in three years for me. -

Inappropriate?I had the whole casing replaced on the warranty , now showing sighns of cracking again where the lid touches the top , and on the hinges . seems like the same crappy plastic they used here .

Inappropriate?Hi, I've had my keyboard panel replaced three times (the third time yesterday) because the plastic keeps cracking. The last two times I've had it replaced I've been out of warranty. It's a nuisance, but as long as the Genius Bar guys are happy to keep replacing it for free once a year, I guess I don't mind too much.

Inappropriate?I've had the same problem. Really bad cracks along the edge of the palm rest, to the point where the plastic has split and come away. I now have a gap a couple of mms wide. I'm based in the UK and took it into the Genius Bar today. They wanted to take it in for a week (despite them saying it takes an hour tops to fix) and said the dreaded 'well it's not under warranty'. Anyway, as I need my macbook for work, a week was too long. They gave me a card and told me to ring later on in the year to see when their back log has cleared.
I called Apple Support on my return to work. I wanted to check whether I was covered for a free repair seeing as it's obviously a fault (the 'well it's not under warranty' had put me off a bit). I spoke to a very nice man called Edward who assured me that I would get the repair done free of charge - despite me not being under warranty/apple care - and gave me a case number.
All I've got to do now is wait until the 'Genius's' can fix it in a hour instead of a week.... Scotch tape with have to do for now.
So if you are having the same problem, call Apple Care.
