iTunes 8 no longer streams to Airport Express
I've installed iTunes 8 which no longer connects to my HiFi using airtunes. There is a popup that emerges after about 4 seconds of 'connecting' with the message: 'unknown error -15000'.

Ok, I've fixed this in Leopard through the Firewall trick:
go to System preferences > security > firewall >
Then select 'Set access for specific services and applications' and add iTunes to the list of applications by clicking the small '+' icon at the bottom left.
I also restarted and reset the Airport Express to factory settings.
I’m waiting for 8.01 to solve it properly

Inappropriate?I'm a Windows Vista user and I have a similar issue but I don't get any error messages. iTunes says it's connecting to my remote speakers, the track plays but I don't get any sound.
Nothing wrong with my AirPort unit either as I can still stream to that from another Windows PC running an older version of iTunes.
I’m confused

Inappropriate?I see this same problem after upgrading to iTunes 8, although in my case using AirTunes connecting to an AppleTV.
I’m frustrated

Inappropriate? In tiger go to Systems Preferences and Sharing then firewall and the advanced button and turn off UDP. This will fix it, but is not ideal. Hopefully Apple will fix this

Great! Firewall is the good track. No need to restart Airport Express. -
Inappropriate?Go there : http://discussions.apple.com/thread.j...
Go to System preferences and Network, clic on Advanced and TCP/IP
I solved my problem with configuring IPV6 to Automatic. It was checked at "No"
I hope that your problems will be solved.
I’m happy

Inappropriate?I managed to solve my problem and have posted the solution on the Apple discussion board, see: http://discussions.apple.com/message....
Note: This is only for Windows users who have this problem.

Inappropriate?Hi!
It is a problem with the firewall if you have it set to allow only essential services. Seems that there is an issue with iTunes 8.
If you either turn the firewall off or set it to allow access to specific services as Timo describes, it works again.
Nothing to do with the firmware I think.

Inappropriate? On Leopard the problem occurs with the firewall set to allow all connections. Also, specifically allowing the application with logging shows the connections are allowed, but iTunes still displays the error when attempting to connect to AirTunes on my AppleTV. For now I've just reverted to iTunes 7 (and my iPod firmware to 2.0.2) which works fine.

Inappropriate?Hi!
I'm on Leopard as well and the solution for me was to set the firewall to allow specific services and actually delete the iTunes entry (if present).
Wired as it seems... -
Inappropriate?Do this to allow an airport express to work with iTunes 8. If you have tiger, go to system preferences > Firewall > choose new > other > UDP Port 6002 For the description name it Airport Express Fix? You are basically allowing Incoming UDP at Port 6002, the rest will be blocked (UDP that is). You can also go to advanced and uncheck block UDP traffic, but I would do the above first. You may also want to add iTunes Music sharing by checking the box to the left of it.
I don't have leopard, but I think it is easier. In the firewall just allow iTunes. Most of the problems like these are due access via firewall. Don't believe me? Turn off the firewall, and you will see iTunes streaming no problem to the Airport Express. There are some people with different problems, like needing to upgrade their airport firmware etc. I can't believe Apple let this happen. I am pissed about it. I have a computer science degree, and used to be a software engineer, but became a doctor, plus, I just switched to a Mac 2 years ago, so I am not as familiar with it. If anyone who knows what they are doing out there sees a problem with my UDP fix, please let everyone know. -
Thank you all for the suggestions. I had the "unknown error occurred (-3256)" problem after installing iTunes 8 (powerbook G4, 10.4.11). Tried the IPv6 fix, the UDP fix, multiple re-starts (computer and AirPort Express) even tried turning off the firewall but still no airtunes, just the same error.
Finally got the V6.3 firmware update for the APExpress and that did the trick. Hope this helps someone, and thanks again. -
Great Stuff! This seemed to do the trick for me when I tried things and it also seems a little less radical as some of the other options that people have suggested. It would be good if Apple could present us with a fix. -
Inappropriate?I was receiving the same problem. I entered the MAC address for the AirPort into the "allow" list for my router and it resolved the problem.
Also, to fix the problem with my AirPort and iTunes cutting out a lot, I changed the channel for my router to a channel not used by as many local wireless networks and it resolved that problem as well.
I highly recommend netstumbler to determine what channel local networks are using.

Inappropriate?Oh, and to avoid any confusion, I'm running Windows XP.
