iTunes Software Update bricked my iPhone. Apple turned off all the community support.
Itunes Software Update has bricked my iphone: "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection was reset".
I upgraded this morning. This message appeared.
My internet connection is ok, and the iTunes store seems eager to sell me awful cds and movies.
It will not, however:
- Complete my software update
- Let me roll back to a previous version. I just get a white screen.
I went to the Apple.com support page, and they turned off all their discussions / community support.
This has happened to several friends.
What the shit, Apple?
This sounds like bad infrastructure planning and product design - if your IT network can't handle the load of people upgrading their phones, then don't let them half-upgrade a device without the ability to roll back -- and don't start turning off sections of your consumer help website.
I am left without a telephone, and trying to make choppy Skype calls into Apple's tech support. I'd love to call them on my phone, but... you get the point.

Inappropriate?I'm having the same problem with the same message after downloading iPhone 2.0. My iPhone only allows me to dial an emergency number, no other access. iPhone shows up on iTunes, but there is no information on the screen, and no way to sync up! I'm out of business right now.

Inappropriate? The discussion forums are back online.
According to Engadget, all of Apple's Activation servers are down
http://www.engadget.com/2008/07/11/it...
I’m beyond outraged.

Inappropriate?I fear this is because Apple/AT&T decided to do activation themselves -- in the past they used Synchronoss (SNCR) to handle activation. They ended the relationship and are doing it themselves now.
I’m still upset

Inappropriate?Same thing...... I was freakin amped to get an iphone today. Wish they woulda told me that I can't use it!
I’m sad

Inappropriate?I was dealing with the same issue but now I'm back and updated. Sounds like too many off us wanted the same thing all at once
I’m happy now

Inappropriate?I believe this is actually intentionally. No way to know for sure, but here's my theory:
Many folks, myself included, have "bought" hundreds of free / cheap apps. I'm up to 1,800 of the critters. At the moment, there are "336 updates available" according to iTuned of them but when I try to update I get "We could not complete your iTunes Store request. The network connection was reset. Make sure your network connection is active and try again."
Well, my network connection is solid and I'm able to download new apps without difficulty. However I obviously can't use that many apps at once, so Apple may have been bothered by all the updates for apps not actively used sucking up a ton of bandwidth. I even tried a packet capture to watch the conversation from MacBook to iTunes store, and there are only about 20 packets exchanged before it gives up. I assume one of those early messages gives the number of updates and if too high, it decides you are too greedy and suggests, in very cryptic terms, that you go away.
Anyone with a better theory?
