iTunes upgrade lost music
My mum upgraded from iTunes (the version with the green icon) to the latest version and now we can't find her music files anywhere on the computer.
The playlist is still there - but iTunes can't find any of the files.

Inappropriate? Please tell me that you found an answer to this problem. I too upgraded and lost all my older MP3 files that I had imported from my old CD's. I lost half my music library. Thanks Apple.

Yes, I to have lost music. They are still in my play list but will not play. The problem is that I have lost about 22 CD's worth of music and on some of the CD's I have only lost a couple of songs. I have tried re ripping the the CD's but I still end up with the same result. i tried Alex's repair but, when I go to advanced there is no " consolidate Library" there -
Itunes has a new upgrade that I downloaded and now this problem seems to have been repaired, at least I think so because I reloaded all of my lost misic and now it all stayed in... Old 7070 -
Inappropriate? You could try doing the following:
iTunes > Advanced > Consolidate Library
This will find all MP3s in your computer and toss them in iTunes -
I tried this to no avail -
Inappropriate? Thanks Alex - but it did not solve the problem. I believe this is an overlooked glitch with 7.7.1 upgrade of ITunes. I just wish there was some way to know that they are trying to get it fixed...

Inappropriate?mmm... ok,
You can also try to recreate your iTunes Library.

This usually fixes problems with songs which are still within the iTunes folder but are no longer listed in the play list.

You can also try the following:
In the finder go to File > Find
search for a song by "title" or "artist" or search for "MP4" to find files downloaded from the iTunes Store or "MP3" to find songs encoded in MP3 format.
Then double click them and they should be added to iTunes again.

If you just did a plain update of iTunes then all your songs should still be within your iTunes folder. Unless you chose to delete old itunes folders and files without importing them over to the new iTunes install.
