mhz, ghz, ram speeds?

I am looking at buying a notebook/netbook and want to know what speeds I should look for. I realize the data/air cards have a lot to do with speed on the internet but what else? I don't plan on viewing avi or other types of media files all the time but it would be nice to know when I did, they would play alright. My friend had a verizon air card and she had to let the videos load first and then play them.

    Dear Penny,

Apple does not have netbooks (yet)... However, If you want to get one of those $399 Acer or Dell netbooks look for the following:

I have two BIG beefs with Netbooks >>

    SMALL keyboards...

If you are going to type for a long period of time (such as longer than 5 minutes...) do get a normal size keyboard.

    Expandable...

Some of those Acer and Dell models are not expandable so you will be stuck with the 8 or 16GB of disk space (at least for the cheaper models)

    **********

NOW, If you want a Mac ask yourself the following:

    Are you a student?

You get student discounts on any of the macs( Yay! ) The most popular for students is the MacBook...

    Are you an Office person?

If you only do office apps then you don't really need much power any lower end mac will do...

Are you a Hobby type person?

You may want to look at the custom made MacBook or MacBook Pro

Are you a Professional / power user?

You may want to look into the custom made MacBook Pro or if you travel all over then a MacBook Air could be useful.

    **********

As for specs these should keep you happy for a while:

    CPU anything over 2Ghz
    RAM > 2GB
    HDD => 120GB

Again, if you are a power user then you may want to max out your Mac...

As for the "air cards" it depends on the model, service and software version you use... Most of these cards are Windows only and 3rd party software is custom made for each service provider to work with your mac.

However, some require "extra" memory or CPU, you may want to read the req. specs before buying...

Hope that helps you a little... ^_^

Thanks for the information! I keep going back and forth between a couple options. I analyze it all til I can't stand it and buy. I definitely will be trying some out for size with the keyboard issues. I won't buy anything less than a 10" model. Those 8.9 look horrible in that area, although I thought about adding an extra keyboard.
Thanks for adding the extra details about memory for the air cards and student discounts. I have plans of going back to school in the summer.

I want a macbook/netbook for mobility mainly. I think my biggest issue would be the transferability of an air card. If I could use one service (only) and trade between a desktop and the mobile one, I would be good to go. If I wanted to upload video files, I am sure it would have to be only to the desk top, then internet, not the mobile computer. That will be/is my next question.
