Why does the mouse and keyboard on my MacBook Pro stop working periodically? Rebooting fixes it.

Inappropriate?I close my mcbook let the "apple light" go out and reopen. This seems to clear it. -
Inappropriate?I'm getting this problem several times a week. Closing the machine does clear it sometimes, but not always (forcing an ungraceful hardware reboot using the power switch).
There is an Apple Suport topic on the problem:

but the issue seems to be still unresolved.
