Music files duplicated when Adding to Library
I have a brand new MBP and want to import my music that is backed up on an external hard drive into iTunes. There are no music files already on this computer. I mounted the external HD, opened iTunes, and selected Add to Library. I then selected the folder containing all the music on the external HD. The problem is, when it's done, there are two entries in iTunes and two physical files for each song (e.g. My Song.mp3 and My Song 1.mp3).
I've noticed some of the duplicates differ by genre and for a very small number of tracks there are no duplicates. I have too many songs to remove the duplicates manually. How can I copy my music over from the backup without this problem?
I am running version 7.6.2 on Leopard.

Inappropriate? That usually happens when you import an old playlist among the normal Mp3s. You'll get the same song twice, you could scan your Mp3s looking for the playlist files and delete them. Then you should be able to copy the Mp3s without having any more duplicates.
If you need to delete a whole bunch of songs you can list them by date. (that is if "My Song 1.mp3" is newer than "My Song.mp3",etc)

I have no playlists, though. I can't delete by date because they were all created at the same time, when the files were copied by iTunes off the HD.
