my iphone won't sync to itunes
I can't sync my iPhone to my mac laptop. This is new. I've done it before. Not only will iTunes not see the phone, but iSync won't either. It will be picked up by bluetooth, but I can't sync it that way. The cable does work to *charge* the iphone, but not to sync it. iPhone is v2, MacOSX 10.4, iTunes is 8.

Hi Michelle - I did get it fixed thanks to my mac tech savvy friend... he found something on a site called macosxhints (I think that's it).
In the end my issue was related to podcasts that I downloaded directly to the iphone. This created a glitch of some sort. Once we removed the podcasts then the iphone would be recognised in itunes and would sync.
It was still a bit flaky, ie it wouldn't sync automatically etc, so in the end we did a restore on the iphone as well. A bit of a nuisance but it's back to normal now and I have upgraded the software just yesterday with no dramas.
Now with podcasts, I download them on itunes (on the mac) and let them sync over to my iphone rather than doing it directly from the phone.
Hope that helps someone out there!
I’m relieved it's sorted

Inappropriate? There are a number of things that could be causing it, and an almost equally large number of solutions. Something from this list should work for you:

Inappropriate? Thanks James. I worked through that already (rebooting everything, checking the cable, etc.)
The phone is not recognized by iTunes, and now I'm trying mobileme as a workaround and I can't log on -- have gone to iForgot, had info emailed to me, changed my password twice, etc.
I’m not having a good morning

Inappropriate? If none of those worked for you, then your phone (probably the dock connector) may be defective. I recommend taking it to your nearest Apple Retail Store or authorized service center for repair or replacement.
As for your MobileMe troubles, if you still can't access your account after using iForgot, you may have to contact MobileMe via chat support. Go to the MobileMe support page and select "Account & Billing". At the bottom of the list, you should see "Still need help?" with a button to start your support chat. MobileMe chat support is available daily from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Central Time, except on holidays.

Inappropriate?try this
Connect your iPhone to PC
Then Open iTunes
Click "Store"
then Click "Authorize Computer"
This trick works for me... this Syncing Problems with iPhones and iPod Touch is very common to recently jailbroken iphones or ipod touch.
Hope this helps

Inappropriate?I have been trawling the internet all day for a solution to this problem... I have tried everything suggested on the apple support page with no success. (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1410)
I have changed nothing on my phone - 2 things happened on my mac 1. I had turned on Genius and 2. my battery ran out and lost my itunes library...
Since then I have switched off genius - tried uninstall/reinstall older version, now back to current version of itunes etc
Any help out there, this is sooo frustrating!

Inappropriate?Danielle, were you able to get it fixed? I'm in the same boat and I've tried every suggestion. The apple store told me I have water damage because she could see a dark spot, which I think is nuts because I never had any problems before a couple of days ago and my phone has not gotten wet. I really would love to update to 3.0.
I’m going crazy.

THANK YOU!!! this worked perfectly! After days of searching for answers you helped solve my issue!
Sincerely,

Danielle's solution worked for me too - I had loaded some podcasts direct to my iphone and, when I deleted them, itunes recognised the iphone again and synchronised as normal. Many thanks to her teccie friend! -
Unbelievable - you are DA WOMAN !!! This fixed my problem. For those who don't know how to delete a podcast directly from the iPhone: you flick your finger leftward across the title, and a "delete" button appears. I deleted the podcasts that I had downloaded directly (ie not through iTunes) and presto, my iPhone can sync again ! -
I have been trying to figure out what's wrong for 3 days and this was the answer - thank you so much. -
So glad this has helped others out - seems a bit more widespread than I first thought! -
OMG!!!! thank u soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo MUCH!!!
fully was driving me crazy as a mother plucker!!!
Thank U agen u guys fully saved my sanity!!! -
Inappropriate?Wow, no kidding. I did a restore on the pohne at the apple store I wonder if I remove the podcasts on my computer if it will sync? That's just crazy. Thanks. I'll check into that.
I’m glad someone has an interesting solution.

Inappropriate?Meaby you did that before, have you tried to power off both Computer and Phone ?
If you never did it for the phone hold on the power (on top of phone) for a few second until the red power off slider come up. Slide it to turn off the phone.
Then reboot your Mac and try again.
Good luck ! -
Inappropriate?Yes, it turned out to be a bad install of iTunes, which surprises me because the same thing happened on both of my laptops. Something happened went wrong during the mobile device portion of the iTunes install the guy at the apple store said. What are the chances of this happening on both of my computers?! It's all fixed now, but man, that made for a stressful weekend.
I’m relieved.

Inappropriate?Ok, I will fully admit that I am no technophile, but maybe someone else is an idiot like I am....if you try to sync your iphone with a cable from Belkin, make sure the cable isnt marked "Charge Only". I hope this helps someone else out there from trying in vain to figure this out...
I’m a retard.

Inappropriate? Is your phone hacked? Have you tried restarting your computer and your iPhone? I have found that a majority of problems that happen with iPhone can be solved with a simple reset.
-
Inappropriate?Danielle - thank you thank you thank you for that post. I was trying to sync my wife's iphone and had the exact same issue. Once I deleted her podcasts that she had downloaded directly to iPhone off the phone (by dragging my finger right to left across them), it synced just fine. I haven't seen another post anywhere on the internet with this information so you saved me TONS of time. Thanks again!
I’m elated

Inappropriate?Danielle- Thank you! I had 2 old podcasts (the only ones I have ever downloaded) on my iMac. I deleted them, trashed them, and then restarted the iMac. Magically my iPhone 3GS synced JUST FINE after the reboot.
Thanks again!

Inappropriate?I've got the same problem, although I've tried nearly everything I've read on this page and nothing has happened, I recently upgraded my OS to Vista from XP, I'm guessing this is probably the cause, any ideas? Maybe I have to download drivers for the iPhone that are compatible with Vista, I'm not sure but any help would be awesome right now, really annoyed I can't put the new CD's I bought this week onto my iPhone :( :(
I’m frustrated
