My wireless connection is dropping off every 5 minutes
In our flat we have three MacBooks, and two of them are repeatedly dropped off the wireless network, every five minutes or so. The other one works fine. We all have the same OS version (10.4.11). Possible relevant differences: the working one has a model identifier of "MacBook2,1" while the others have "MacBook1,1". Also, the working one has an AirPort card firmware version of 1.2.2 while one of the others has 1.1 I believe (not sure about the third). All Apple software updates have been applied to the non-workng one; the problem has persisted for weeks. Has anyone seen this before?
The wireless router is a BT Home Hub, for what it's worth. The non-working Mac owners report that this problem has not happened with other wireless networks.

Inappropriate? The numbers after the MB mean the version and series. (So MacBook2,1 = 2nd version of series 1) That means that the 1.1 are the original first MB. so, what does that mean? Well, the 2,1 has a different version or brand of the airport card while the others don't.
In other words, unless there is another software update for their airports, their macs may have a small problem with the BT hub due to hardware incompatibility. As far as I know, this is actually normal, not all manufacturer's hardware like each other.
I personally have a MBP2,2 and the airport card I have has a hate & love relationship with Cisco's mini white brick wireless b routers. every time I am around one it cuts off every 20 minutes or so. However, every other single wireless router I have tried so far works wonderfully.
thankfully all Cisco routers have been replaced and I no longer have this problem.
If there is another solution to this I would also like to know...lol

Inappropriate?Alex, thanks; I hadn't considered a simple incompatibility between hardware vendors.
Just wondering, is the problem you report related to interference and signal strength? Or, do you get the bars dropping low before disconnecting?
In our case, it just disconnects suddenly, in software, without diminishing first. -
Inappropriate? In my case, it depends on the Cisco router that I am connected to. Some don't allow me to connect at all. Others allow me to connect for 20 minutes to 2 hours and the connection sometimes drops slowly and other times it completely cuts off without warning. I don't think it is interference and/or signal because I've had a Cisco router right outside my office door (less than 4 meters from my MBP to the router on the outside wall) and I wouldn't be able to connect at all. After changing the router brand, everything was fixed.

Inappropriate?I had this type of problem when running 10.4.10 and it went away when I downgraded to 10.4.9 . (I upgraded to 10.4.10 about a month later and the problem came back so I downgraded to 10.4.9 again). I'm now working up the courage to give 10.4.11 a try (certainly not ready to plunk down the $ to get Leopard).
