No way to add Airport Card to 2006 Mac Pro?
I have a 2006 Mac Pro without airport, want to add one, Apple Retail store say they don't have the part, the online store says the airport card isn't for 2006 Mac Pro, and I don't think it's user installable...? What to do?

Inappropriate?Unfortunately, the AirPort Extreme card is not user-serviceable on the 2006 Mac Pro.
You can find installation kits online, but the installation is complicated and will void your AppleCare extended warranty (if you have it). Your best bet is to contact an Apple Retail Store or authorized repair center to purchase the part and have them install it. -
Inappropriate?I worked on this two-edged problem (no AirPort card, no desire to lug the MacPro into the shop to fix that problem) a couple of months back, and tried....oh....half a dozen WiFi USB sticks that purported to be OS X compliant. Not surprisingly, none of them actually worked. What I ended up doing was: using a wireline gigabit Ethernet port on the MacPro to connect to a 5-port gigabit switch, to which was attached a wireless bridge configured to connect to the closest WAP in the house. That setup (5 port switch PLUS wireless bridge) was cheaper than an AirPort card for the MacPro, not to mention the AirPort card plus the trip across town to the teen zoo known as the Apple Store. This does defeat certain applications that require the use of AirPort, but works for the vast majority of applications. If you want the specs on the kit, contact me.
I’m waiting for a user-serviceable MacPro
