Plug in and go my butt!
I just bought an airport express and cannot get past the very first step of setting it up, when I plug in my ethernet cable and plug in the AE it flashes amber. So according to the Light Status rundown it means I have a problem with my internet connect however when I plug directly into my computer the internet works just fine. Does AE need a particular type of modem?

Inappropriate? If you are connected via ADSL or Cable modem you will need some sort of user name and password or a MAC address identification with your DSL modem or ISP server.
That information needs to be setup into the AE before being able to connect to the internet... If you did not setup your internet connection yourself, you will need to call your ISP and inquire about it....
If you think the AE has a beef with your internet connection even after calling the ISP. You may want to call Apple, You have 30-90 days of free tech support.
By the way the AE is not the same as the AEBS. So, depending on what you want to do, you might want to get an AEBS and not a AE -
Inappropriate?Just to let anyone know who is in the same situation I was...I phoned Apple Technical Support and they walked me through the steps of setting it up. Basically I plugged it in, when AE Utility wouldn't recognize I had a wireless device I had to reset the AE base station and then rescan..it then found it and then I just went through the steps of setting up a new network. Jonathon from Apple walked me through in about 10 minutes and now I am all set up!
I’m very happy and thankful!
