SMS text messages are not sending

Mine has been sending them fine, even from the corner of my apartment that is the cellphone null-zone.

I think the antennae on my nokia just sucked, or it had been dropped too(two) many times.

I haven't had any trouble with mine.

Maybe it was just an AT&T transition thing?

I have the same problem. The phone tries to send, but then hangs. Any solution.....

The hanging issues on mine seemed to be related to the AT&T network connectivity. I haven't had this problem since, though I have updated the software 2-3 times. Make sure software is up to date. If you're having this problem from many locations it might be a completely different issue than what I experienced.

Just got a new iPhone (today), and I'm having this issue. Tried to send SMS and it's hanging right now. Any way to cancel while it's "Sending..."?

It's not a connectivity issue, because I can make calls just fine.

In any case, I guess I need to make sure software is up to date.

Software is up-to-date, so maybe it's a problem with brand new iPhones not being fully functional with the AT&T network or something. I'll wait a bit and try later.

Hey Sobi. Do you have a data plan? Can you access the internet using Safari?

When I activated the phone, choosing a data plan seemed like a requirement. I recall the default (and minimum) was 200 text messages per month.

I can't access the internet using Safari ("could not activate EDGE"), so what does that mean? Do I need to sign up for a different/extra data plan? Do I just wait until something propagates through some AT&T account creation process?

Rebooted the phone. Now it's working.

I have two iphones. my regular one: unlocked 1.1.2 version. has problem sending messages starting 1 day ago. No problem receiving message.

try the sim card on another iphone, jailbreak 1.1.3 version. no problem either sending or receiving messages. I know the problem is in the iphone itself, but where and what to do????

Nevermind I have an new Iphone since July 11th and I could not send any SMS...I could not find any solution on any Forum I have visited...so here is what I have done...
First point : In my case this was not a bug of the Iphone ! but a wrong setup of the carrier : Orange.
Solution:
1)Take out the SIM card and put it in a old phone.
2) Change the carrier centre number (in french "Centre d'appel"). The number that was saved in the SIM card was 919 and I have replaced it by +41787777070 which is the correct number for Switzerland...
3) Put the SIM card back to the Iphone and send messages...
4) Criticize Orange whenever you can
5) Enjoy the Iphone !

I have a new 3G iPhone and it will not send a text message from anywhere. Receives them just fine. After a couple hours with both Apple and ATT tech support, it seems I already need a new phone. Anybody else have this problem that solved it?

The same exact thing just happened to me. I was on the phone with technical support, and apple support and they basically told me that I need to make a service appointment at the apple store, and that they'd give me a new iphone. What a waste! I can't believe so many people are having this problem. I've only had the phone for a month, have never dropped it or gotten water on it. I've yet to try re-installing the software, but that may help.

After I called AT&T they said that my SMS service number might be wrong. If you call them and ask for it they will gladly give it to you. The person on the phone with me said that if you have a zero in front of the number it wont work. Hope This helps

I have rebooted many times; restored too. Still gives error. Everything else works fine. Checked my acct online with AT&T; all OK. Version 2.21 and also had "update on network" fix thru iTunes last night. Has been acting like this for several days. Any more help?

You have to get a new IPhone. They cannot fix it. Had the same problem a few months ago.

They both pointed fingers at each other, but after a week on the phone and going to the Apple store and the AT&T store, Applecare took responsibility and replaced it.

Have same problem, especially in crowded areas. Of course there are a lot of people trying to send at the same time, but my brother's iPhone works fine. I've got 3g, he doesn;t.

full bars, calls work, internet works, zillions of texts left in the package, latest software, device is undamaged...

2nd time that I've tried to send an SMS and gotten this same exact behavior you describe.

I reboot and then it works.

ARGH! I too am having this problem, 3 trips to the Apple Store AND a replacement phone, still an issue.

Apple did the following:

1.) Phone restore
2.) Setup the phone as a new phone and installed new software
3.) Synced to my computer.

I went three days without an issue until now. Let me know if anyone else has a solution.
