Sound with earphones, but when i unplug them....nothing!

Basically what has happened is when i was listening to my music, it just stopped a high sound, however the song continued to play in a very low sounding noise, however after this i put my earphones in for the first time and boom, the sound was there loud as it used to be and still when i remove the earphones, i go back to no sound.

Any ideas?
