trouble with google's IMAP Gmail
i've been using Gmail's IMAP functionality together with Apple Mail.app for quite a while now but for the past few weeks i've been experiencing super slow downloads for incoming mail. It's gotten to a point where receiving maybe 10-15 mails take a few hours (!). I heard Gmails IMAP system is non-standrad so this might have something to do with it. Myabe there are some settings i could twiddle to make things speed up a bit?

Inappropriate?is there a secondary server for imap? i know that gmail has two pop servers: pop.gmail.com and pop.googlemail.com, and in the past when one slowed down for me switching to the second helped. perhaps you're at imap.gmail.com, and switching to imap.googlemail.com will help? worth trying, anyway!

Inappropriate?I had this problem myself! I never was able to figure out why Mail just appeared to stall out when downloading emails from google. However, Mail.app seems to do fine grabbing all my new email for my inbox, regardless of the little interface glitch on the bottom left that just seems frozen in time.
So maybe it's not actually a problem? -
Inappropriate?what i did was unsubscribe from some mailing lists to keep the 'traffic' low and turn off some of the options to save stuff like spam and deleted messaged on the server which are on by default. this seems to have solved most of the trouble. it's still slow though.
imap.googlemail.com did not seem to work...
update: that server does work, just needed to restart mail.app. not sure if it's faster yet -
Inappropriate?it is, or was, an actual problem btw some mail arrived 48+ hours after being sent.
