We need cut-and-paste and text selection features on the iPhone
The Treo has this ability, and it's pretty fundamental for an all purpose smart phone, don't you think?

Inappropriate?Your statement assumes that the iPhone is an all purpose smart phone. I think Apple takes exception to that, and people are jumping to conclusions.
The only times I've really desired cut and paste on my iphone was when I was writing a longer email on it. It was painful. Now I don't. I wish I could.
I’m anxious

Inappropriate?my wife has an iphone and asked me this same question today. can it be done?
-
Inappropriate? It can't be done today. It will require a software upgrade, but I'd put money on them doing it eventually. With the GPhone OS coming out there's too much competitive pressure on them to not do simple but powerful features like this.

It's gotta happen sooner or later. Let's hope sooner. -
Inappropriate?its Apple's patronising take on computing. Who needs cut and paste (says Apple) why cant people just type everything everytime. Duh if you had a keyboard that didnt drive us crazy then maybe it wouldn't be such a pain Apple. Give us copy, cut and paste NOW.
-
Inappropriate?I have the xda orbit 2 and the choice of keyboards is cool, just give us a choice, and or copy cut and paste.
I’m confident
-
Inappropriate?I often need cut and paste, iPhone is the only 'smart' phone I am aware of that doesn't have this feature.

Inappropriate?iPhone 3.0 and TextSelection API
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/...
New text editing features
Scott Forstall, Apple's senior vice president of iPhone software, demonstrated a new text selection feature that will allow users to select text by double tapping on a word. That action brings up a popup of copy, cut, and paste buttons, along with selection markers that users can drag to expand their text selection.
Once the selection is made, the buttons allow for usual copy, cut or paste features. The new feature works across any application, and adds undo support. Apple also demonstrated pasting multiple photos into Mail.
Will be interesting to see what happens with all the smaller apps that filled the gaps (notes sync, voice clips, mms, cut paste etc)
I’m thankful

Inappropriate?having made the jump from windows mobile phones (8yr user) to iphone 6mos ago, the reliability and usability is much greater (even if locked on proprietary sw) but come on, basic functions as MDNZ says - cut&paste, notes sync, mms, video rec, voice clips...- should have been there already!
I’m frustrated

Miranda, having used various PocketPC, Windows Mobile for 6 years it was a breath of fresh air to not received "Unable to answer call" messages or not have calls drop out or most people complain about my phone. Productivity has been a huge boost on top of reliability. Just clarifying... I never said Video recording should have been there.. in fact I have little interest in using video recording and significantly draining battery life. There are a lot of other features I would put on top of list. Looking forward to the improvements ;-)
