When will the iPhone break away from AT&T?

Inappropriate?According to some sources, in 2009 the contract between AT&T and Apple is up. You can either wait two years to see what happens, or you can wait a year and switch plans, OR you can pay to have your T-Mobile contract ended. If the 2009 date is true, then there's still uncertainty around whether or not Apple will stay with AT&T.
I’m anxious

Inappropriate?I hope Apple will break ties with AT & T. I know all carriers tend to suck (link to Wikipedia article about the NSA Call Database issue), but some suck more than others, and wish there was a way for a decent company like Apple to not have to work with the idiotic, often evil carriers.
*waits for phone service to be cut off*
I’m disappointed but not surprised.

Inappropriate?I was just reading an article in the Wall Street Journal: Apple iPhone Hits Snag in Europe - basically, German and French consumer protection laws have prevented Apple from having an exclusive distribution deal with mobile phone carriers in those countries. In France, today, you can purchase an iPhone from your choice of carriers.
Hopefully this unfettered foreign access might place some pressure on Apple here in the U.S. of A!
I’m optimistic

Inappropriate?I don't know when they'll break up, I just know im happy with my iPhone and happy with AT&T.
I’m happy!

Inappropriate?Don't switch if you can wait. AT&T has really had reception and bad customer service. I will be happy to pay and terminate the contract if Apple and AT&T break up.

Inappropriate?I have to be honest: I was very skeptical of AT&T. I switched from Verizon just to get the iPhone. I've been pretty happy, although, yes, the coverage isn't quite as good as Verizon. But, it's pretty close.
I think that maybe the iPhone partnership gave AT&T a kick in the pants to make their online billing and communications with customers better. And, they seem to have also not tried to trick me into additional services or purchases. I think that Apple's partnership really helped bring me over to the idea of using AT&T. I'll stick with them as long as they keep treating me the way they have been -- or until Apple makes deals with other carriers!

from the rumor mill it seems ATT is going to start subsidizing the v2 iphone coming out in June if you sign up for a two year contract. I doubt they would do this if it was a 5 year deal. Sounds like they want to lock most users through mid 2010 so they can't move when the exclusive expires...
