Why can't I buy a new MacBook Pro with a matte (non-glossy) display?
There are a lot of things I like about my new MacBook Pro (unibody, with glossy display), which just replaced my old MacBook Pro.
One of the things I really don't like is the glossy display. I see all the lights in my office reflected in my display. In fact, I had ordered an LED Cinema Display, too, and I sent it back because I realized its glossy display would pose similar problems?
Why is Apple offering only glossy displays now on many of their products? Matte displays are much easier on my eyes. I realize they don't offer the same contrast or dark blacks, but really, I still strongly prefer the matte displays.

Inappropriate?I believe that Apple chose to remain with glossy displays due to the improved visual quality and the confusion caused by the offering of two display options.
Essentially, they simplified the purchasing of a new MacBook Pro by only offering the display with the highest visual quality.
Power Support offers a "Anti Glare Film for 15-in. MacBook Pro". They don't offer one for the new Cinema Displays (yet), but I'm sure that someone else out there does. You might want to check with your local Apple Retail or electronics store. Just take the Cinema Display's dimensions with you.

Inappropriate? Thanks for the heads up on the Power Support "Anti Glare Film for 15-in. MacBook Pro." I may purchase that, but I am a little scared of the purportedly difficult install process.
I learned that TechRestore offers a $199 matte screen replacement option for the MBP.

Would this violate the existing warranty on my MacBook? What about the 3-year AppleCare warranty I purchased? -
Inappropriate?Regarding your existing warranty and AppleCare, the short version of TechRestore's answer is, "We don't think there will be a problem." Here's the long version:
"We provide a 1-year warranty on your new screen. Our technicians have performed tens of thousands of repairs on in-warranty laptops since 1994 and we have never had a warranty declined by the manufacturer due to our service. Of course, the manufacturer will not cover any parts we install on your laptop, we take care of that for you. In the unlikely event that you have a problem getting warranty service on your laptop after we perform any repair or upgrade, simply give us a call so we can provide you with assistance. We are here to help."
