Why does my Apple TV keep turning on?
Since Apple TV tends to get really hot, I make sure I turn it off after use. Yet for some reason, it keeps turning itself back on. I don't use the remote (or any apple remote) by it, so know that I'm not unintentionally doing it myself, but wondered if there is a setting or something I need to change so this stops happening.

Inappropriate?I think it's haunted.
Seriously, though... We had a receiver that did this for a while. I can't remember if we figured out why. But it was bizarre and slightly unsettling. I don't have an AppleTV yet (waiting for future versions) but if I hear anything about this I'll let you know!
I’m a little spooked

Inappropriate?I have this problem as well, Although mine is like clockwork...
Every saturday between 4pm and 5pm (GMT) it turns itself on and freezes, and will NOT work ever again until I pull the plug out and restart the machine manually.
I’m annoyed...

That is truly bizarre! -
Inappropriate?Perhaps it's because of a synchronization schedule. Since Apple TV has to synchronize all of your multimedia file from your computer to itself it needs to turn itself on to do so. I have the problem myself, I didn't look it up in iTunes.

Inappropriate?[When I am talking about it being on, I mean when the shiny LED is on and it is able to display something on the TV.]
I have this problem, but don't have the freeze issue. Approximately every 3 days I find it turned on which is annoying because it will go into screensaver mode and because I have it set to flickr accounts, it is surely using up my broadband allowance. How dare it!
Not sure whether it is required to be on to synchronise because it delivers music to my speakers without being on (I control is using my iPhone Remote app). Basically, I don't have to turn on my TV to use and control it (love it).
Great product, but this is annoying.

Inappropriate?Mine is still turning on on a weekly basis (7 days exactly) but since one of the very recent updates, it's not freezing any more!
(The update that stopped pressing and holding play/pause putting it in standby seemed to fix the freezing issue.) -
Inappropriate?I have this same problem. Mine turns on about once a week. The light comes on and I have to change my TV and audio receiver to view it, and then I can turn it off. It's annoying and always happens.
I called Apple and they told me that the hardware is covered under warranty but software isn't. I told them that any software on there was placed there by them (updates). They wouldn't hep me without paying for Apple care. The only thing they would say is to restore it to its original state and try it then. I did, and it worked fine for a while. It's doing it again, after it installed the latest updates. I think its a problem with their product, or at least with their software update. The problem is, I want the updates, and it should be able to handle an update released by the manufacture.
It turns itself on and never turns itself off. It's annoying and I feel like Apple's customer care sucks. I love my iPhone, but Apple's support of this product is enough to keep me from trying a Mac. It puts a sour taste in my mouth for Apple products.

Inappropriate?I had the same problem and ever since I put a new battery in the remote, the problem stopped!. I noticed you say you do not use any remote, this may be the problem. With the new battery in the remote the device has not turned itself on. It seems to be fine now. This was driving me crazy. Hope this helps.
I’m happy!

how do you change the battery in the remote? -
Thanks, I'm going to try the fresh battery approach as well.
Dasd,
On the bottom of the remote (opposite the IR transmitter) there is a small round button. Push it in with a pen (or maybe something that wont leave a mark) and the battery compartment will open. -
Inappropriate?I put a new battery in my Apple TV remote and the problem went away. I noticed that you say you do not use the remote and there in may lie the problem. I would recommend getting the remote and replacing the battery. The problem seemed to magically disappear. Hope this helps.

Inappropriate?I will give the fresh battery thing a go see how it does. I have a few spare CR2032 batteries so it will be no loss if it doesn't work.
I’m undecided

Inappropriate?Ours does the same thing. Every few days we see the power light is ON. At 50W this machine uses quite a bit of energy and it's annoying to have to keep checking in on it. We do not use it very often and we have other remotes for the TV and DVD player we use more often. Have never noticed that any of the remotes inadvertently trigger the Apple TV, but even if they did then it's a bad design flaw on Apple's part. If the Auto-Turn On problem is just a software glitch then that's also a problem. Am thinking of taking it back for a new box. While they are still available... And, yes, we have been updating the software on the Apple TV. May try a complete software restart-restoration before we get it replaced.

Inappropriate?I tried the fresh battery in the remote trick and it didn't make a difference whatsoever.
I personally think that apple should address this issue by allowing users to turn off the "Auto update check" thing off so that it doesn't even turn on to check for updates.
Come on apple, Do something to help us out!!! -
Inappropriate?I changed my remote's battery. I also disabled the auto-update because I installed Boxee.
I'm not sure what fixed my problem, but it's been about two weeks since it started up on it's own. If I had to bet on it, I'd go with disabling the auto update, but that's just my two cents.
